Instagram post from him translates "everything has it's time, thank you *." Guess we'll know his decision soon.

Celtic have warned top signing target Vinicius Souza they are not prepared to wait indefinitely for him to make up his mind over a move to Glasgow.

The 23-year-old Brazilian is currently training with parent club Manchester City as he ponders his next move following two years in Belgian football. The City Group own 60 per cent of the player and are keen to help facilitate a deal with Scotland’s champions because of their close connections with Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and the club’s former chief executive Peter Lawwell.

And talks have been ongoing with Souza’s representatives since the end of last season as Postecoglou homes in a physical enforcer to beef up his midfield options, but Souza’s agents have also been in discussions with a number of European outfits with Schalke, Fenerbahce and Real Betis all thought to be weighing up big money offers for their man. And with the clock already ticking down to the start of next season, Record Sport understands Celtic are now pressing hard for Souza to put his cards on the table once and for all.

They believe the former Lommel and Mechelen man will add badly needed bite to an area of the team which struggled to cope with the aggression of Rangers’ midfield during the final two Old Firm derbies of the season. Postecoglou also believes Souza’s presence could make a key difference in next season’s Champions League campaign.

But Celtic had their fingers burned in 2019 when they thought they had tied up a similar deal to take Brazilian Douglas Luiz from the Etihad only for the player’s agents to take him to Aston Villa instead. And Parkhead bosses are determined not to be left in the lurch again this time around as Souza stalls on making a decision.

A source close to the negotiations confirmed last night: “The two parties are still talking but there does come a point in time when Celtic need an answer and that moment is fast approaching.

“If Souza - or his agents - aren’t prepared to commit then the club will simply have to look elsewhere because it’s an area of the team that the manager wants to address as a matter of urgency. Souza absolutely fits the bill in terms of what’s required but he’s not the only option.”

Happy with our standpoint if true.

As mentioned, previously I'd just have taken him for a season on loan but it would have been a wrench to then lose him next year if he was quality.

Who knows. Something may yet happen.

In saying this, we've been at this for over a month. Something must have changed quite recently as you'd imagine we would not have held on this long if we didn't think a loan to buy was an option?

Aye, we should be well past loans without a option to buy.

    It's pointless.

Move on. * and his agent messing about. I'd rather have someone half his ability but 100% committed.

Meh, come to terms with this one now. Does seem like he's been playing us a little which puts me off. Like others have said, for the first time I actually trust the club and if we are standing our ground in the way we seem to be then I don't blame us if the deal doesn't go through.

I'll be excited to see who the next in line is.

To me, this was always going to end in tears if we pursued a loan. It was only going to be a matter of time for his agent to drum up some interest from attractive clubs for a loan.

Personally, I’m still not convinced half of these clubs are even in for him and it’s the agents response to Celtic saying in the media they’ll move on to another target. I mean Schalke ffs, they can’t even afford to flush their *.

It sounds like Fenerbahce have now tried similar with him and Carvalho by now saying they are moving on and after Arao from Flamengo.

I don’t believe this is dead, but the sounds that have come out of Lommel have always pointed to cash up front, so we might be about to see a big kick * spend for this lad.

It’ll definitely change who our other targets for 3rd striker and CB in this window window are, with free transfers most likely now or a loan to buy. Need to get rid of the deadwood desperately.

To my mind Souza is still a possibility but work is still on-going in the background on other immediate choices, Ange would not have all his eggs in only a Brazilian basket.

If this Souza thing is not concluded by next Monday, Ange will turn his attention elsewhere. We got O'Riley a week after McGree made his final intentions known about not coming to Celtic.

Elisha Owusu or Belmonte have attributes that Ange will like and can improve.

Scanned the Betis forum and managed to navigate my way to their transfer rumour thread even though I don’t speak Spanish.

Only post they have about Souza is the Anthony Joseph tweet at 10pm tonight. They seem to all be focused on Dani Ceballos from Madrid for CM and Bellerin for RB.

    Good work detective Keano :fear:

In and out with the information without being detected.

This is definitely the work of his agent playing games. Schalke = broke, Betis = Carvalho linked to Fenerbahce, Espanyol = pick a beautiful warm city. A lot of tosh by his agent to delay and get his name out there.

I think the player still wants to come here, it’s just his agent being a * who has probably promised him * he can’t deliver. What worries me is if he has a great season, the agent will try have him off to another club, much like Juranovic’s agent.

    But :ange2:
