I feel as if we dont buy enough young talent from scottish teams. When you look at players like Afolabi, Shaw, Uroghide, etc not working out, i wonder if we would be better served going for the better talent in scotland before looking to England and abroad.
I know there are plenty examples of scottish players not working out at us, but just think we pass up a lot of oportunites to sign from scotland.

I don't blame the club taking a punt on Shaw and Uroghide since both had senior experience in England where they both looked at least promising and were both on a free I think. Afolabi I could have told you myself that he was * :giggle1: Never stood out at underage level for Ireland.

It'll come to the point where its pointless trying to scout, sign and develop youngsters, the one in every 100 that makes the grade and then the ones that are tapped up or poached by your big clubs. I don't see how a youth team can be financially viable, unless there are rules brought in from FIFA.

Rangers and Celtic have made opening bids for Motherwell youngster Bailey Rice - but also face competition from clubs south of the border.

The Glasgow giants have both started talks and tabled offers with the Steelmen to land their Scotland under-17 cap this summer with clubs lining up for a deal. An English Premier League club has also declared their interest but Motherwell are fighting to try and keep their young prodigy in Lanarkshire.

There has been a conveyor belt of talent coming out of Fir Park in recent seasons with the likes of David Turnbull, Jake Hastie and Allan Campbell coming through the academy. The defender is not due to turn 16 until later this year and will then be eligible to sign his first professional forms.

Rangers and Celtic both see the teenager as one of the best young players in Scotland and are trying to win the battle for his signature.

If Motherwell are to lose Rice then they would be looking to strike a deal now with future add-ons built in, that would be more than the basic compensation they would be due if he was to move before he signs his first pro form.

Youngsters Mitchell Frame, Daniel Cummings and Josh Dede have all signed new deals at Celtic this week, writes Scott Burns.

Left-back Frame has penned his first professional contract along with Scotland’s Victory Shield striker Cummings.

The highly-rated 16-year-olds have came through the ranks at Lennoxtown and had interest from down south but both decided to remain at the Scottish champions.

They will go into Chris McCart’s under-18 squad for the new season.

Josh Dede was also in at Celtic Park this week to sign his new deal.

The right-bank agreed his deal back in March

Dede and Frame were heavily linked with loads of EPL club's..

    No sure about Cummings..

Hopefully we can start giving our best talents a clearer pathway/game time and 2/3 year plan's with the right loan's etc..

    This is it..

It isn't like we don't have the player's. We have major talents at most age group's....that the elite club's are always after. It's just finding a way of keeping a decent percentage of them..

The way it is...we'll always lose some top academy player's.....but there shouldn't be this many going..

I understand the need to win trophies every season but I think we should be using the first few rounds of the domestic cups as opportunities to get B team/youth prospects game time. Give them a chance to show what they've got.

KT got his chance purely through an izzaguirre red card iirc. Can't keep relying on pure luck and circumstance to give players a game in the first team.

Who’s Ben Summers? One of the guys invited to train with the first team start of pre-season?

Interestingly, Dawson isn’t one, and he was one earlier this season. Wonder if Ange thinks his wee cameo has stalled his development.

Wee midfielder. Probably best midfield prospect at the club. Played a young Tommy Burns in the documentary about him a few year ago.

It’ll take a miracle for Dawson to make it here. His appearance was out of necessity rather than actual being good enough.

There was a Tommy Burns documentary a few years ago and Summers played him as a kid in it.

Aye it's a hard balance because we demand success but something has to give. It should've been when the huns died and we had year's of domination..

He's excellent. Think he'll get some game time if he isn't loaned out..

Tall and quite silky. Can finish..

Brooks is a better player than Dawson..

The latest batch of nine Celtic Academy prospects have signed their first professional contracts with the club ahead of the new 2022/23 season and are taking the next step on the player pathway to what they hope will be a career with the Hoops.

If any of the new Bhoys need any inspiration or an idea of just what they can achieve, then they need look no further than Callum McGregor who, like them started at the Celtic Academy as a youngster, lifted silverware with them and is now doing the same as captain of the first team, with other graduates including James Forrest and Kieran Tierney among many others.

The skipper started with the Academy when he was eight-years-old and trod the same path as the new 2022/23 intake on his player pathway to success with both Celtic and Scotland.

Indeed, Head of Celtic Youth Academy, Chris McCart joined the set-up here in June, 2008 just as a schoolboy McGregor was about to embark on a trophy run of four consecutive Scottish Youth Cups and two successive league titles while still in his teens.

McCart said of the current intake:Congratulations of all of our young graduates who have signed their first professional contract with Celtic this summer. This is a very proud moment for all the players and their families.

“Every one of these graduates have come through our Academy system joining us between the ages of seven and nine-years-old, starting off with our Junior Academy. This is the same pathway that James, Callum and Kieran took to join Celtic.

“This current group have all attended our partnership performance school, St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch. They have benefited from our programme combining their football development while progressing their education.

“Hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of previous graduates like Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry, Anthony Ralston, Michael Johnston and Stephen Welsh to become a regular in our first team.

“All of our staff who have worked with these players over the years, take a real pride in following the players’ development pathway through each age and stage on their journey at Celtic. It is important that we acknowledge the dedication of our staff to deliver their very best for each individual player.

“The importance of applying yourself in all that you do has been most apparent throughout all the players’ time in our programme and our advice to every player is that commitment to learning must continue.

“We wish all of the graduates every success in the future.”
