I think a lot will depend on who we bring in to what role Turnbull will play.

If it is a CDM like Souza or another then I could see McGregor being pushed on to compete with Hatate for the 8 role/box to box and Turnbull then competing with ORiley for the playmaker role.

If it is a more box to box midfield 8 then I could see Turnbull again being pushed on which to be honest is his more natural role given athleticism is a weak point.

There is also the aspect of if someone came in for Turnbull and offered good money for someone with 2 years left on their deal and he fancied it would we sell and then buy two CMs?

Hatate is another who has played more as the most advanced CM of a three at Kawasaki before coming to us so again could he compete with ORiley and a box to box and Holding midfielder be brought in with Turnbull leaving?

There is a long way to go in this window this summer yet before we will know what our team will look like for next season.

If Ajax are seriously interested in him, he'll go there. Higher wages and they could afford the £10 million fee.

At the same time, Anthony Joseph is rarely, if ever, right about Celtic. He seems like a sound guy, but also clueless.

The influence of the City Group will undoubtedly be our biggest sway, that and CL football of course. If Ajax are serious it could be hard to compete with that, but I'm not giving up yet.

O’Riley will force his way into the team. He has too much quality on ball.

I wouldn't be surprised, mate. As it is though I think he needs to improve his mobility/stamina a bit to start in that 3 in the CL.

Over 60 games in the season, give or take, and with the insane intensity ange has us playing, every one will get plenty of games. Need as many top players in each position that allows.
This guy looks what we've been missing.
Turnbull will play loads of games
Hatate will play loads of games
Oriley will play loads of games
    Calmac will play 60 games.

I agree there is an element of risk and it is a good point on progress in Europe, personally looking at the teams confirmed for CL it is going to be a tall ask to still be in European competition post Christmas next year. I know Ange won’t look at it like that and it will all come down to the draw.

I also agree there’s no guarantee of success.

Do Ajax spend big on transfers? I know they are not in EPL league but what's a big transfer fee for Ajax?

Surely Ajax will promote from within or sign better? :fear:

Record fee is £18.8m for Sebastien Haller, the other season. Paid £13m for Antony. They are probably the next step up from us in terms of regular spending.

Their revenue levels far exceed ours, Im sure.

Edson Alvarez is their holding midfielder atm, but looking at their squad its about to be ransacked again so I'd imagine they will spend this summer.

Antony, Gravenberch, Timber, Mazraoui all leaving for starters.

Oh yeah for sure, and offer the same level of facilities (probably better), money and UCL football.

But it's also Anthony Joseph...we choose not to believe him any other time so I'll reserve full judgement for now. What is clear is that there is probably a list of double figures, clubs wise, interested in this guy. No wonder with his stats.

A 6ft 2 holding midfielder who is comfy on the ball, 22 years old and with the ability to play CB and also stride forward, with his physical attributes and defensive prowess. £8-9m is well worth a risk for clubs who can afford to chuck money. Players like him are rare.

Sadly we cannot view £8-9m as a drop in the ocean, but even still he would be worth the risk IMO.

Yeah with PSV making an offer, Ajax joining the race and the guy himself supposedly having doubts about playing in the SPL then I think this isn't going to happen. Would take something pretty special to bring him in.

On a positive note, would imagine Ange probably has a few names lined up by now.
