In part I agree, but if he does become a key player and help us reach say european football after christmas and the league title, etc, thats a financial reward in itself, even if he wasnt to sign on after the initial loan. People overlook that.

Yes he seems like a talent from what we have seen and from the reviews he gets but the kind of money we are talking is big for us, and i would again highlight that the few brazilians we have had have not faired well in scotland.
If a loan move is a success there is still incentive for the player to join. The pathways to the EPL are there to be seen in KT, Wanyama, Forster, VVD.

We should be mindful that there is no guarantee the move will be a success. As exciting a potential move would be, many moves have not worked out and again, the kind of sum we are talking is big for us.

Can you see us bringing in a 10 with Turnbull and O’Riley there already tho? Two big talents.

If we think he's the guy for us, go out and pay the 8/9 million to get him.

We spunked that on ajeti and barkas and are still financially sound.

    It depends.

I really believe our lack of pace and power will continue to detriment us in Europe. I like both of those players but I have my doubts at European level. For the moment anyway.

Neither are rapid but I dont think their workrate can be doubted.
I think O’riley has too much quality on the ball to be ignored and Turnbulls stats dont lie. Both are capable of playing the press. We could bring in quicker players, sure, but theres no guarantee they will be better footballers

All for a loan-to-buy here if that's what's on the board, but I do think our resistance (from the board and us as fans) to spending big on players who would take us to another level is what holds us back from progressing beyond where we are. Not saying we need to spend £10mil every transfer window, but here and there it's required to get that top quality required for us to compete in, say, the CL.

Agree but better footballers don't always win the day.

Huns proved that and it's been proven time and time again with underdog sides over the years. Which is what we are. Underdogs.

Any success we have had in Europe in recent times hasn't really resulted from as having better technical players. It's stemmed from organisation and having physical advantage in key areas.

Just feel like both of them in the same midfield in Europe is risky. Even I'd we don't get the pace, we definitely need physicality.

Aye but you spend less energy keeping possession of the ball than you do chasing it.
We need technical quality in europe mixed in with a high work rate. With a front three of Maeda, Kyogo and Jota(?) i have no concerns about our press.

Iv seen O’Riley pressing high up and leading the press himself, i have no worries about him. With Rogic gone, next season he will find his place in the team and become one of our stars and im confident he will do it on the european stage.

I just dont know where Turnbull fits in, i can see him competing with Hatate.

We could never ever play Turnbull and O'Riley together as our 8's in the champions league. It would get massacred..

Which is why I agree with your general point that we could be doing with another who could mix it in there..

For what it's worth, I like Turnbull and he offers us quite a bit in this side....but O'Riley has a more higher ceiling and is the one who would I do have belief could play at that level in this side..

Hopefully we get Souza and he can be the 6. McGregor would then be the guaranteed 8 and it's a tough one as you've then got O'Riley, Hatate and Turnbull really competing for that next spot....but we can't stand still and I'd still want another in with real energy, quality and physicality..

Hopefully you're right but last season concerned me still.

And I think Ange knows that we need some physicality in there at least..this guy would solve that. Hatate I'm expecting a lot more from as well, tbf.

I suppose our recent history in Europe has me being more pessimistic than usual.

100% think Hatate will be big for us. He was clearly majorly goosed after a long season in the j league..

    I'm a big Turnbull fan.

One of his cheerleaders in that thread. But last season our midfield was a big issue in europe which is where my concerns stem from.

I think a solid, tall, physical 6 would help a lot. Which is exactly what Souza is. I'd be content to see how those in front of him faired this season, with a view to maybe signing that pacier, box to box in January.

Yep, his stats don't lie. Just at that next level I'm mo sure about him. His lack of pace and on the turn is an issue..

Aye it would be massive just getting that guy to screen the backline. Souza would honestly be that game changer we needed..

No more getting bullied. No more midfield getting bypassed/overrun. No flustered by the high press. Would take a massive bit of dairy off of McGregor..

If we get him, the left back, another centre half a d flexible right winger/forward.....I'd deffo be content to go with that til January as well..

We 100% need more energy and pace in midfield.

Actually think Hatate is going to be immense for us this season. If we bring in a player like Souza, it’ll be interesting to see how we lineup in midfield.

Essentially 2 of O’Riley, Hatate and Turnbull will start on the bench more often than not. Incredible depth.

I think Turnbull will be on the bench next season. I like him, but he's just back from a major injury and we don't even play with a natural 10.

    O'Riley McGregor
    New Cdm

Will be how we line up next season imo. Hatate for games where we need more pace and Turnbull for games where we need to be more attacking.
