That's the standard model for sell on clauses.

It's ALWAYS a % of profit mate... Imagine you buy a guy for £10M, he turns * and you ditch for £5M... Do you honestly believe ANY club/company would then agree to pay ANOTHER tranche of money's on their loss? It's just standard practice to reward the supply club should the value explode upwards, as credit for their development

So you are saying a transfer goes through with a sell on clause of 30% of any future transfer fee means only 30% of the profit made on top of the original fee the selling club paid? Clearly u don't have a clue pal

I give up, you might want to try reading up on the subject as you really have no idea what you are talking about. This conversation reminds me of that old video about trying to explain debt to a hun, so I shall leave you to your own version of reality.

If all the figures quoted are true we'd still make a profit on him as long as we didn't sell him on for less than 9.3 million. Given what he's done on the pitch and what we could potentially sell him for - I don't think it would give Nicholson too many sleepless nights.

Ideal if this is official. Ideal Celtic signing - young but not so young, tons of potential. Can you imagine what he'll be like at 27? If his development is managed carefully he will easily be a £30mil player by then

No idea. Feels like you are just repeating what I said, in long form, so not sure why you are asking me :43:

How would anyone know the sell on percentage?

The amount could probably be partially worked out from annual statements but I don’t see why anyone would necessarily know about the sell on percentages. Also it’s millions of pounds, it is surely likely to be a far more complicated clause than “30% of profit”..

Simple example, 30% of profit up to a max of £4m. Why not that?

Pretty sure I was just agreeing with you, and explaining it with an example for the people questioning your/my position on it... Certainly wasn't dissing you on it.

Maybe I replied to you by mistake, instead of another poster... :39:

Who gives a * what the sell on clause is ffs!!! If we've got a board willing to pay in the region of 7m and agree to a 30% sell on fee then what's the problem. Or would we rather bulldog Lawell back?

Players like him are extremely hard to come by for a club in our financial position. Pay the £7m plus whatever sell on %. No problem.

    Fee £6.5m
Sell on fee is 30% of any future fee

eg: Celtic sell him for £30m
    Benfica would have received original £6.5m plus £9m (30% of £30m) = £15.5m
Celtic would have received £14.5m profit

It’s an absolute no brainer. There’s been dud signings in football for way more money than that. Every signing is a risk but this guy is absolutely proven. Get it done Celtic
