For a guy that was Japan's top scorer he isn't anywhere near clinical enough.

Header in the 1st half then that chance from 12 yards out in the 2nd. His effort is good but he's got to start hitting the target

How so ? I'd rather abada than him tbh

Wasteful alot , panics , first touch is * , closes down but thats not enough.

Scored a few aye bit misses far too many easy chances. That header was horrific and he should have burst the net with the other sitter.

Sheer work rate, how much he wins the ball back, how much he doesn’t allow a minute, set up our goal, constant pressure on them. He had the chances to win it but also was the biggest reason we scored the goal as well

Think he's one cracking goal away from turning class. Yes he's scored but he's not taken a cracking shot, a brilliant finish or a silky chip etc. They've all been a sort of bumbling into the net. Once he gets his goal I can see him settling in front of goal alot more.

I'm not sure there's a great ceiling to him in terms of technique.

It's one of the things that worries me about having him in the team. And I say that as someone who thought he had a good game today and at Ibrox.

On the one hand, his work rate and pressing are extraordinary both offensively and defensively. Yet on the other hand, he just doesn't seem like a player you want the ball to go to in the final third. I know he set up the goal but I don't think he's got the natural ability to take a man on or even drive incisively into the box. It's all power, stamina and running with him.

If he had that natural technical trickery and unpredictability he'd be awesome.

He's a far more effective player than Abada

But he should have burst the net with both chances

To be fair, If he was a more technical player, I don't think he'd be anywhere near us.

What he brings to the team over-all is fantastic, but I do think he's more of a rotational option than first choice. Need a winger in the summer who can, ideally, play both sides.

I know but you can always hope about uncovering wee gems that are unreal. :giggle2:

You're right about him being a rotational option. I think he's a very useful player and would want him in the squad but we're a club with ambitions in Europe we need that technical quality in the final third.

I don't mean to seem like I'm sitting on Maeda. I like him but I do think there are limitations.

Thought he kept Tavanier quiet for the most part when down that side. Lots get said about his technique but that was a lovely wee moment of magic he made for the assist.

Should have scored at least one, but still, an important assist and he and Kyogo's one-touch link up play against Ross County looked promising. Like most of the January signings who had to be thrown straight in, will benefit from a proper preseason.

i think we will see the best of all the japanese bhoys next season ,playing a season and a half may well be taking its toll on both him and hatate . they have done so well to come perform as they have done settling into a new country ,language and all that balls. you can just tell they are capable of so much more

Annoyed me with his lack of bravery yesterday.

That would have killed it. If that's big GG he takes McGregor into the net with him.
