A mental take indeed but not surprising from some of our fan base.

Personally think this “mediocre” period is massively exaggerated. He was * at Hampden but other than that I think he’s been pretty much consistently class.

By all accounts his instructions were go play in the wrong position and shoot whenever you have a glimpse at goal, wildly misused carrying out a poor managers instructions and we slaughtered him for it. Then was used correctly start of this season, even outwith his usual position again, and we got the rewards for it.

In hindsight I’m not blaming him for past season, he was hung out to dry.

Exactly this. He was untouchable before his injury, quite good afterwards and it’s labelled as mediocre. Big part is the focus that’s went on him since he’s came back but that’s opened up the midfield quite a lot.

Also think Kyogo’s movement see’s the best of him as well.

Totally agree with this take. Christie was an unreal player for us. Lennon ruined him last season. I was desperate for him to sign a new deal.

His form dropped this season as well before his move. He was absolutely stinking at ibrox but then he never really did play well against them

I can’t say I remember how he played at Ibrox vividly but he was arguably our player of the season, if you could call it that, before he left.

I wouldn’t even say stinking, if the ball got squared to him when he was clean through with Kyogo shooting we’d have been delighted with his performance. Small margins kinda performance.

It’s 100% hindsight for me, because honestly I was one frothing at the mouth about him the year before. Kinda feel bad about it now, it’s why I don’t blame him for leaving I’d have told us to * off as well.

Yeah same as. I instantly put Bournemouth in my coupon to get promoted when he signed for them. That’s how highly I rate him personally. A better player than Armstrong who’s now an EPL mainstay.
Anyway, that’s probably enough on Christie in the Jota thread :giggle1:

Him claiming to always be a Bournemouth fan in an apologetic manner was quite amusing right enough

He was definitely below the high standards he set himself earlier on in the season after his injury but was and still is our best winger through the period after. But he was never mediocre. Think he's only had 2, maybe 3 games all season where I think he was genuinely poor but that just highlights he's been consistent to a good level.

    He's a wonderful winger.

I think this is something we’re going to see with Matt O’Riley as well.

Can’t understate Kyogo’s movement and they’re the two in our team who spot the early pass consistently and actually have the vision and ability to make the pass.

David Turnbull is similar as well but don’t think he’ll be back up to speed until next season.

Could possibly be down to Kyogo's movement. But Jota has so far linked up well with everyone except maybe Scales :fear:

Possibly one for the controversial Celtic opinions thread though lol

His form clearly dropped for months there. It’s ridiculous to argue otherwise.

2 goals in 18 games prior to the weekend is a pretty awful return and it’s not as if he was putting in great performances and just not getting the goals.

Before Christmas he was incredible, though.

His form did drop, there’s nobody saying anything different to that. I think most of us are saying that he wasn’t poor regardless if his form had dropped from the standards we know he can have.

    He was poor though.

He’s been really underwhelming for most of this half of the season. Games like that at the weekend were almost the standard for him pre-Christmas. I get that it’s a high bar but he has the talent to do it more regularly.

That’s only the second game he’s scored in since the end of November. For me that’s pish for a winger and particularly one with his quality.

I’d still sign him in a heartbeat, mind. When he’s on it he’s unreal.

I think he’s contributed without taking over like he has when he’s been peerless at points after his injury, it was getting aimed at him in the 7-0 St Johnstone game because he wasn’t on the scoresheet.

Weirdly, the Aberdeen game that he scored 2 in and was the difference on the scoresheet was one of his poorest all round performances for me but he made the difference. There’s been a lot of games since he came back he’s quietly made a difference without being outstanding, and that’s the drop in form for me… if he hadn’t set his own high standards then it wouldn’t be a question, I wouldn’t put the word ‘pish’ towards him at any stage this season.

Even when he’s not been as unplayable as he can be, the focus that’s been on him, his workrate and how he brings others into play and the space that’s there when he has 3 men on him has made him invaluable. Even when he hasn’t been at his destroying everycunt infront of him best. There’s probably only two games or so this season I’d label him as poor, the other ones are more just not done what we know he can.

And that’s ok for me. Baffles me that people would look at him this season (not you btw mate) and think he wouldn’t be worth £6.5m outlay.
