I’d 100% welcome him back as a coach. It’s a no brainer. This is where he belongs.

Can’t see him going to Cyprus.

I’d imagine he’d want to stay in this country.

If he is to come back in any capacity… especially connected to the first team… I wouldn’t want it until next season. I don’t think we need anything risking upsetting the ethos within the team right now. CalMac is still establishing himself as captain and needs to be able to do that as well without the presence of the previous captain looking on.

He may have coaching potential … but I don’t see him as manager material … not for a good while yet anyway.

You can have club legends and other highly regarded players without feeling obliged to give them a job whenever it’s needed.

Scott Brown has been offered a quickfire route back into football by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers rejuvenated Brown’s Parkhead career when he took over the Hoops in 2016 with many writing the ex-Scotland captain off.

And following the 36-year-old’s departure from Aberdeen, Rodgers has given his former on-field lieutenant an opportunity to join him at Leicester City.

The Foxes boss has been in contact with his former Celtic captain since he took the decision to hang up his boots earlier this week.

Rodgers has invited Brown down to spend some time with him and his coaching staff in the Midlands over the coming weeks.

It would give Brown a much-needed insight into top-level management as he aims to revive his own coaching career.

Rodgers has also vowed to help Brown get back in the game and to help wherever he can in terms of helping him to land a new role.

Brown decided to terminate his Aberdeen contract on Wednesday and will now take time to consider his future and his options with his family.

Brown has already been inundated with offers of support and help since he announced his playing retirement.

The 36-year-old moved to Aberdeen to be a playing assistant coach to Stephen Glass

Brown, however, was left in an untenable position when Glass was sacked and replaced by Jim Goodwin, who made it clear there would be limited scope for him to continue to coach and even play.

The former Scotland star only quit Celtic and moved north to begin his coaching path.

He was heavily involved in all aspects under Glass but was left frustrated as he didn’t coach as much as he would have wanted due to his playing commitments

Celtic would be willing to offer Brown the chance to return in a coaching capacity but that wouldn’t be in a first-team capacity and would be at under-age of academy level.

There has also been talk of Brown joining former Celtic boss Neil Lennon in Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia.

Leicester would be an amazing move for him, when I said I'd prefer he go elsewhere first it was a club where we could easily poach him from, not vice versa :56:

I think he should earn his stripes somewhere else. If he’s successful in coaching I’d welcome him back with open arms.

We should be moving away from hiring for sentimental reasons and giving jobs to the boys.

If he has an opportunity to spend any time in Rodgers team he should take it.

Whatever we think of Rodgers he runs a top level management team.

Agreed, he should jump at that chance with Leicester and learn in one of the best leagues in the world at a pretty good team, excellent for his career

Think he’s being offered something akin to work experience, rather than a full time job. That’s how it reads to me anyway.

Brendan Rodgers has tipped Scott Brown to follow in the footsteps of Billy McNeill by returning to Celtic as manager.

Rodgers spoke exclusively to Record Sportafter digesting the shock news that his former Parkhead skipper has ripped up his contract as a player at Aberdeen and is ready to hang up his boots for good.

The Leicester City boss revealed that he has already invited Brown to travel south to the Midlands to discuss his new career path into management.

And, while Rodgers believes there may not currently be room for Brown in Ange Postecoglou’s back-room team, he is adamant the man who led the club to Nine in a Row as a captain is just setting out on the same pathway that led Lisbon Lion McNeill all the way into Celtic’s hotseat.

Rodgers said: “I do think that one day that could be the position for him but I’m not sure it’s the best step for him to go back right now.

If you look at it, Ange is doing a great job and he’s very clear in how he works. Then, behind him, you’ve got a brilliant coach in John Kennedy who is there to support the manager and you also have Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus

So you have good coaches there already and, below that, it’s always been Celtic’s way to bring through their own young coaches

I’m not saying Scott wouldn’t be a great addition to that. He would. And I’m not saying he needs to put distance between himself and the club either. It’s about him having the time to allow him to grow and develop in his career, wherever that is.

“But I definitely think there will be a pathway for him to go back to the club at some point in the future. He’s obviously been a fantastic player and captain of the club and he could go on to follow in the footsteps of Big Billy.

“I’m pretty sure if Brownie really wants to do that then I think he will do it. But it’s about building up the skill set to best enable him to become the manager of Celtic and deal with the pressures and the expectations he’ll then encounter.”

Rodgers has already made it clear to Brown that his office door at the King Power will be open.

But he believes the 36-year-old is destined for a big future on the sidelines.

He went on: “I have absolutely no doubt he can then go on to do really well as a manager or a coach. It’s just about waiting for what he sees as the right opportunity

He could go in as a coach and give players little bits of gold dust from his own playing career. So he could start by doing that and then go on to become a manager somewhere down the road.

“Or he could step straight into a manager’s position because he’s been such a leader all this time. He could then have other coaches around him.

But there’s no doubt that having someone like him at your club, whatever club that is, would be absolutely fantastic.

Management requires a different skill set. Just because you are the highest level of player you can’t just expect to go straight into the same level as a coach or manager.

“For me, this is a guy who’s had an unbelievable career. He should take a little bit of time now to reflect on everything he has achieved. He’s been doing it for so many years, season after season and he’s never taken that bit of time out. But this is a great opportunity for him to be able to do that and reflect on everything he did as a player and have a think about what he wants to do next.

“He’s already doing his coaching badges so it’s pretty clear he wants to go down that road. But he just needs time now to look back at all he’s done and then think about his next steps
