I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt here. He's not had a break really since his season ended in Japan. Think he'll come good.

Offers zero in link up play, poor touch, doesn’t come short, doesn’t look for the ball when he’s out of the game and doesn’t particularly move into channels well.

Hiss press is frantic but I think there is also a bit of intelligence about pressing that’s maybe missing, not sure if it’s missing or being harsh. Prefer Kyogos press.

 

Given what he's offered the last few games, I'm very sceptical.

First touch is mostly poor, link-up play is non-existent. Still early days, needs to raise everything about his game.

 

I agree 100% about pressing intelligence but I think this is goes well beyond Maeda. Our press hasn't been right at all since the huns game. We aren't really cutting out space and forcing teams to play where they don't want. Feels like we aren't quite there as a collective unit at the moment imho.

 

For me with Maeda my biggest issue is pinpointing except his pace what he has.

His movement doesn’t really seem all that intelligent at times but other times he seems to get in the way.

His worst thing is his link up play, his touch with back to goal and lay offs are mostly very poor even in the most basic situations.

However that being said, see if he was the type of forward that was lethal when given a sniff of goal I could accept the other parts of his game being poor but he misses some amount of good chances too.

Maybe he settles in and his finishing gets back to J league levels but in the mean time I would have him on the bench to come on as teams tire.

He got poor service yesterday, but the one opening he got he made a poor decision trying to go round the keeper, he should have played it early for the far post as if he missed Jota could have turned it in given he had run in front of his man.

It was actually very similar to the reverse situation in the Bodo/Glimt home game.

 

No sure the not having a break is to do with his form. He’s a pro footballer who shouldnt turn into a dud because hes played a full season already, plus he has a month off after the season I think. His touch and finishing and link up looks extremely poor so far, thats can’t be down to tiredness.

 

Been watching his YouTube again, his touch looks decent. Completely honest question but could it be the balls? I can remember the balls in the South African world Cup causing chaos, could it be the same situation here? Just trying to see things differently as I don't want to completely write him off.

 

Thats what was confusing me, surely out if all our signings he should of been the one the hit the ground running considering he’s played under Ange

 

There's more to factor in than just knowing the manager though.

I'm not writing him off, I think he can offer us a fair bit, he certainly needs to settle in a bit more just now though, I think he's better as a second half sub just now

He’s just taking time to settle. It doesn’t help there’s so much change in general around him.

 

I agree, but also we have to factor in he's played a full season and then joined straight up with us, he's probably starting to feel the effects of no break as such.

 

I was certainly thinking that on Sunday. We really missed not having Giakoumakis as a big presence to get on the end of things and knock defenders around.

 

They are not so much deep lying defenses , more pushed bak way too slow and penned in from poor play when back in possession and no where to go .
The way around it apart from the obvious, score early, is moving forward quicker and better final ball, as well as shooting from outside the box.
