I know this is just a one off anecdote but I do remember people I know saying things like they can't be arsed watching a film with subtitles, so there could be truth in it.

Even when people say they watch stuff dubbed instead of subbed I find it mind boggling.

    The Power of The Dog.

You need to be in the mood for a long haul film but it’s good. 7.5/10.

There was a time when all Western film snobs rather exclusively praised anything and everything that came from Europe (read: France & Italy) & Japan. Scorsese talked about it a bit, as it was seen as rather uncool to praise English language films. That changed a bit with the when the Movie Brats came along (Scorsese, De Palma, Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas, etc.) and it was cool to like English language films again. [IMG]

I think the trend is swinging back to Asia (and particularly South Korea) in recent years.

Pig , Nic Cage film about a recluse and his truffle pig but he's the one who finds the truffles!. Pig gets pignapped and he sets out to find it. Thought it'd be a nuts Cage but pretty much nothing really happens. 6/10.
Maybe i would of enjoyed it more if i wasn't expecting a mad one.

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 5/10

Wasn't amazing but wasn't as terrible as I was expecting to be honest. Gory as *, a bit ridiculous at times. Always liked the original, the scene at the end was brilliant. It's a typical modern take so never going to be as good as the original, but worth it if * all else to watch.

Watched House of Gucci last night- 5/10.
Thought the story would be a bit more interesting than it actually was. Disappointing from Ridley Scott.
Jared Leto, who I normally think is good, was almost unwatchable. Like he was playing some spoof, comedy character in an otherwise serious movie.

Ted K 6.5/10 Quite long, but found it pretty interesting. Have read a lot of his writing, and all his narration in it is taken directly from what he wrote. Wouldn't say I completely agreed with his ideology, but there's definitely areas I can relate to! (Blowing people up aside). Soundtrack was pretty cool as well, and Sharlto Copely is usually a good watch.

Is that the Russian war (well, more of an anti-war) movie, you mean? About the * atrocities during WWII invasion of Soviet Union?

If so, yes, although probably 25-30 odd years ago.

Thats the one, seemingly it makes Schindler’s List look like a Disney movie! I’ve read that its one of the best war movies ever made “if not the best”

Aye, I'm sure I posted about in here ages ago. It's a good film, it's pretty crazy how you can see the effects ta of war on the wee boys face throughout. It's like hes aged 10 years by the end. I can send you a link for it if you want to watch it online

It is a very good one and if you can track it down online or come across a copy/where it's being screened, it's definitely worth the while to check out. There are some pretty hardcore scenes - the church one immediately comes to mind.

Like @Zanderama alluded to, it's the emphasis on the faces that I remember most - how it does so many close ups and emphasis on the faces of characters throughout, and the starting with seemingly relative innocence, of war as being a game and the increasing horrors as confronted with the reality the comprehension that it's almost unreal, etched more and more and * up.

I don't know about being the best - it is a very different film from Schindler's List, so that's really not a great comparison, apart from a few scenes in Schindler's, Come and See is much more up close and in your face, whereas Schinder's List tries to paint both a personal and more broad picture, and it is trying to convey more and have the almost comfort and haven of the increasing humanitarian side of Schinder's character. By constrast, the humanity is being drained away, scene by scene in Come and See and it makes no attempt to put things in a larger context just being right there in your face the whole way - but both absolutely deserve to be checked out.
