Had a look at the free transfers list of transfermarkt, there are a few decent left backs but the most notable one is Marcelo Saracchi.

Just released by RB Leipzig after signing him for €12m back in 2018. Was a fringe player for them only making 13 appearances during 2 seasons. Last season went on loan to Galatasary and played 41 times for them. But not sure how many of us would be put off with another Uruguayan left back so soon after Laxalt. But this guy is only 23 and seems to have a bit of pace in him, would certainly fit our signing policy

Away to Empoli on loan with a €3m obligation

 

Wouldn't be surprised if Jamie Maclaren at some point. I know he's played SPL before and didn't last but I feel he wasn't given a fair go. If he was given time to settle he would be lethal. Ange seems to have a thing for Japanese and Australian players

Some good young players coming through with contracts running down worth a look I have come across

Tim Handwerker, 23 year old left back playing in Bundesliga 2 for Nuremberg. He came through at Bayern Leverkusen and had a season at Groningen on loan. He has all the attributes we would look for in a full back, he is quick, has great stamina, is close to 6 foot, a good left foot in terms of crossing and shouting and is comfortable on his right and coming inside. His contract is up and on a bosman would bring us some competition for Greg Taylor. Also was a former German U21 international.

Cas Odenthal, is a 21 year old, 6’3 pacy centre back who is comfortable using either foot. He is currently playing in the Eredivisie with NEC Nijmegen, playing all there games this season. Again his deal is up in the summer.

Adewalo Oladoye, is a 20 year old Nigerian centre defensive midfielder playing for Gent. He has limited first team minutes due to not signing a new deal but looks to have some potential, a good physical presence and is comfortable on the ball. He would be a decent free transfer.

Festy Ebosele, only 19 year old versatile player between either full back or wing. Is raw but has some pace and strength. Also he’s Irish so could fill our quota of signings for Desmond. He’s at Derby and his deal is up in the summer.

Ao Tanaka, 23 year old centre midfielder from same team as Harate but is on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf. They have a buy option but if that’s not taken up he would be a good signing or even if it is, possibility of signing his as they won’t get promoted this season.

Magnus Kofod Andersen, 22 year old Nordsjaelland, great versatile CM who reminds me a lot of McGregor. Would be a very good bosman signing with a big upside although we aren’t desperate for a CM.

Irakoli Azarovi, 19 year old left back, more like left winger, extremely skillful and tricky young Georgian player, is already a full international, deal is up in December so would be a very small fee.

Osher Davida, 20 year old Israeli winger, left footed and having a great season with Hapoel Tel Aviv, tends to play of the right but can play across the front 3 positions. There left back Doron Leidner is another one to keep an eye on at only 19 but a cracking ball carrier.

An unfortunate name but he is a good player, and has the attributes we would want in a full back.

Physically - He is quick, has a decent build at nearly 6ft and has great stamina.

Technically - He is comfortable on the ball has great ball carrying ability given his physical qualities, has good crossing ability and decent shooting ability. Is comfortable on his weaker foot.

Positionally - need to see more defensively but offensively he is comfortable coming into the half space or going wide to swing a cross in. He also has the recovery pace to cover well given our high energy style.

Attitude and experience - he has a great work rate and for being 23 has nearly 200 games so good experience including 40+ of those at Bundesliga and Eredivisie.

Value - his contract is up, so he would be a free this summer, with a high potential upside. Wouldn’t cost a fortune in wages either and has the potential to be a high value sale in 2-3 years.

 

Watchin utd v boro, boro centreback called Anfernee Dijksteel, sign him for the name alone.

More a prospect than for first team just now but there is an 18 year old left footed 6’7 CB playing in Ligue 2 for Le Havre called Souleymane Isaak Toure. When you read the height you think will he be slow or poor on the ball but it doesn’t look like it from this video here. Looks to have decent ball carrying ability from centre back and a bit like Ajer can shift up through the gears with his long stride. Also shows a good range of passing of his left foot.



Another worth considering in a similar vein is Iranian centre midfielder Yasin Salmani, who is only 19 but has serious ability on the ball and looks a player of some potential that could thrive in our system. All be it we have great options here, given he is only 19 it could be a bit of contingency planning. His deal is up in the summer so would be free or cheap. He has already been called into their full international squad too.

I think if we win the league and get automatic CL football, going in for him and enticing him to come to us would not seem as tall an order as it has the last few summers.

If Juranovic was to be lured to the EPL in the summer we could do a lot worse than sign Christian Dahle Borchgrevink from Valerenga who is a 22 year old attacking full back, he has good pace, is good in the air, a strong dribbler and comfortable off either foot making him a good threat in attack. He also takes a good free kick.

 

Is Larsson actually that good? For the fee/wages involved is he someone we should really be looking at if you ignore the obvious sentimental connection?

Feels like the time to get him was when he was in Scandinavia/Holland, and from the little I've seen he isn't really a pressing striker in the Ange mould.
