FIRST MINISTER'S UPDATE ON SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ATTENDANCES

Scottish football’s Joint Response Group is pleased that football fans across the country will be able to return to stadia without restriction from Monday 17 January following confirmation from the First Minister today.

While the attendance restrictions for football matches will be removed from next week, the entry requirements have been strengthened to ensure:

    1. That all supporters must either a) be fully vaccinated, which will include a booster vaccine for those who had a second dose more than four months ago; or b) provide proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test.
    2. That clubs must increase spot-checking from 20% of attendees prior to admittance, to at least 1000 supporters or 50% of the attendance, whichever number is greater.
Further to the above, clubs are advised to recommend that all fans take a Lateral Flow Test before travelling to the match, regardless of their vaccination status.

The national game has again played its part in helping the Scottish Government’s effort to overcome COVID-19, by facilitating pop-up vaccination centres at several stadia to accelerate the booster programme and by complying with the restrictions outlined prior to the festive period.

Scottish football will continue to support that collective effort and, indeed, we urge fans to comply with public health guidance and make the live match experience as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Our clubs are well-versed in ensuring the safe access and egress of fans within the stadium footprint and we will continue to update the established protocols to reflect the Scottish Government guidance.

Rod Petrie, Scottish FA President: “Today’s announcement is welcome news for football fans across Scotland. The First Minister described the new guidance as the country ‘turning a corner’ in the fight to overcome COVID-19 and in particular the Omicron wave that necessitated the latest restrictions.

“In that regard, I would like to thank clubs for playing their part during the most recent restrictions and I am certain as a sport we will continue to demonstrate best practice in ensuring the safety of players, staff, spectators, match officials and everyone involved in the matchday experience.”

Neil Doncaster, SPFL Chief Executive: “Today’s announcement is a sensible decision that will be welcomed by clubs and hundreds of thousands of fans across the country.

“Football is not the same without supporters, and I know how much it will mean to them to be back in stadiums watching matches again.

“This news will also be a real financial boost for our 42 member clubs, who have faced an incredibly challenging set of circumstances since the pandemic began.

“Clubs will continue to play their part to keep fans and players safe and I would like to thank them for their efforts in following the most recent restrictions at such short notice.

“Everyone in Scottish football can now look forward to some cracking matches and a really competitive second half to the season.”

Like the flu. Better a jab every now and then than ending up in ICU.

And do you need a passport telling everyone you have had a flu jab? Will you be denied entry into a stadium for not having a flu jab?

Passports are needed for now as coronavirus puts more people in hospital than flu. When it's regarded as being endemic (like the flu) rather than a pandemic I think the passports will go. And the more people who have vaccines and boosters the quicker we'll reach that stage. It's just a matter of having some patience and getting the vaccines.

Really in the grand scheme of things what we are being asked to do is very little. Considering the tens of thousands that have died is it to much to get a jab and wear a mask and have a app on a phone. We go through some stupid stuff in life that is meaningless and pointless for so much less. Is it really to much to ask from us.

And that's all fair enough...but you just know that many people are going to be left outside the stadium as the game is in live play due to issues regarding this.

If Sturgeon and Co (including the SFA/SPFL) are making in mandatory for all attending the game to be checked then lets see the backlash towards it all when people either don't get in or miss the game (look how bad it is especially at away grounds when there is just a turn still problem.

Unless you are happy turning up a few hours before every game to make sure you can get in then again, fair * to anyone thats willing to do that.

75% of the Scottish population fully vaccinated
(Perhaps 5% that can’t get vaccinated due to health conditions). At what % do we say ok we are at the endemic stage? If 10% say they will never be vaccinated do we continue in pandemic until we reach same immunisation levels as school vaccines (95%) which would be impossible. We are at the stage where everyone who will get the vaccines have taken up the offer of it. We will not reach much higher percentage of those vaxed than were we are at now

I think we had to see how the booster stood up to omicron. It looks as though it's doing well. The hospital numbers in Scotland are still going up though. I think when they start coming down the restrictions should be greatly reduced and hopefully they will be.

5 subs being introduced again, can only be a good thing for the way we play..

I'm theory yes, as long as we make use of them but with a better bench now we should be

With the intensity we play with just now, we should be able to go full throttle for 90mins and rest and rotate our important players when winning too.

Competition for places especially in the front 6 will be high, which is great but 5 subs also gives game time to more, which is great for morale..

Two or three more additions and I think we'll be in a good place for the 2nd half of the season.

It seemed to be the middle to front that had most issues over the hamstrings. so with 5 subs allowed - theoretically, we could hammer a team for the first 45 to 60mins, then sub off Jota, Kyogo, Abada, Rogic and McGregor in favour of Maeda, Giakoumakis, Forrest, Hatate, Ideguchi - problems solved.

    surely :56:
