I say this as a huge fan of Roberts during his time at Celtic. Even though he is only 6 months in at Celtic I flat out think Jota is better and considering his age his potential is massive. If we could sign him now or in the summer to a long term deal I easily see him flourishing at Celtic to the extent that in another 1-2 seasons we are selling him on for more then we got for Tierney. That is how highly I rate Jota. Not saying he is better then Tierney obviously two very different players but attacking players do tend to go for bigger money usually so I could see the above scenario as being very realistic.

Would love the lad to sign on but I've grown accustomed to the modern footballer taking the most attractive deal possible when offered for their career and why not.

He picks up his form when he returns I reckon he will end up in La Liga or Germany with a top club.

Think this one will be out of our hands.

Aye, like I said I'm not comparing the two abilities, just the scenarios where Roberts felt he had a chance elsewhere despite being guaranteed a platform here.

I hope the same doesn't happen to Jota.

I think with jota we all cast our minds back to the Roberts scenario, for me and I'm guessing here , he is working hard and playing well for the manager , there is a level of respect from the players to ange , he is getting the best out of players we felt wer bit part or couldn't make it , jota will feel wanted here ,the fans are giving him the love , it's up to us to give him a decent deal and he will sign , could he be poached while in Portugal, probably but judging by how he has been , he looks happy and playing and scoring is wot he is looking for , am sure if the club can do a deal then he will sign .

I suspect a lot will depend on who they bring in as their new manager. If it's someone that gives young players a chance i think Jota will want to go back and prove himself there. If not I think we have a chance. However I'm even more worried about his situation now, and I wasn't so sure we'd be able to convince him to stay before this.

Hes probably currently thinking "this Scottish winter weather isn't that bad, I can handle 13 degrees.."

Get him signed before it turns nasty :56:

Unfortunately he is back in Portugal, so we don't even have the unseasonally warm winter weather on our side!

Kind of worried In the fact he’s back at Benfica in rehab especially when they have a new manager coming in who will want to re-evaluate the whole squad.

    People need to settle.

Hes back at his parent club getting treatment during a winter break.

Still a good chance of him signing. Need him back ASAP.

We have a contractually fixed option to buy do we not? As far as I'm aware Benfica have absolutely no choice in whether they accept our offer provided it's what was agreed upon when the loan was finalised.

Comes down to whether he fancies playing for us for a couple of seasons but lets be real guys, he's been loving it so far and with Ange's system he could well fancy it

    This
Majority of players who injure themselves on loan go back to their parent club for treatment seeing as that’s who their contracted to and who wants to protect their asset

His injury has came at a bad time though, if i was the new manager at benfica id be straight in telling him he will get a fair crack under his management, surely he will have watched jota do it in europe for us.

Wish to * we just bought him now.

Very 2-dimensional view I'm afraid... All his parent club need to do is convince him to reject our offer - signing fee, wage boost etc, and then he's back to being under their control to hold/sell as they see fit. It's actually very easy for a club where a player is in some way commited/invested to get a player to stay, if they're so inclined. We only have 1st shot at offering him a deal

I’m not overly worried to be honest. I could see another club gazumping us but I don’t think he would sign a new contract at Benfica.

It would just be such a huge gamble for him and for Benfica, especially if they’re in transition at the moment.

It’s similar to us with Jack Hendry.

I'd be worried, I see him staying there, his form will have already attracted suitors and I see a new manager persuading him to stay.

Likelihood is at least we get him for the remainder of the season and he returns to Benfica at end of season.

Noone expected Jesus to be sacked and thats bad for us I think.

    Hopefully wrong.

You think him being there physically is the only way the manager would tell him he is in his plans? If he was still here the new Benfica manager could easily ring/email him to tell him he will get a fair crack.
