The Scottish government is considering whether to cancel large events such as Hogmanay street parties, concerts and major sporting fixtures.

A decision will made at a cabinet meeting this morning, before being announced by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at about 14:20 (GMT).

If they are going to stop supporters attending then I hope they bring the winter break forward. Even if it has to be extended until this ‘peak’ passes.

Would much rather have no football than games being played in empty stadiums.

Can’t believe we are in this situation again.

Anyone thinking there’ll be fans at the game is kidding themselves on.

Folk can’t have any complaints either. Droves have hung off every word of the Government from the get go, yet throw a hissy fit when it eventually leads to restrictions.

We have to push the spfl for a delay.

No * way should we be forced to play those tramps in an empty stadium

    Sporting integrity please

There is no peak - hospitalisations are lower than they were in August. Nippy wants more power and it’s all it’s about.

Words on the BBC site suggest cancellation. That would make more sense to me as if the game on the 2nd goes ahead then there will be plenty of people meeting up in each others homes to watch it.

Guess we will find out at 2.30pm.

It’s obvious now that the spread of the virus is mainly indoors, cancelling outdoor events makes no sense. They’re just forcing people indoors and this time around folks will not follow the restrictions.

Wales have already announced behind closed doors, so will see what Sturgeon has to say this afternoon, if they follow suite or havethe game postponed?

St M do want the game to go ahead, despite the depleted squad they have BUT if they are ordered to play behind closed doors, I suspect that may change, as they'd be anticipating a pretty big turnout/attendance for the game, so to lose out on that if it's played behind closed doors... :/

To risk giving out mixed messages, if they cancel outdoor events and ban supporters from the stadiums then they will.have to close pubs, restaurants etc. They keep telling us to mix outdoors as it's safer, surely forcing more people indoors to pubs and more households mixing to see the footie is more of a risk? As an industry hospitality cannot afford to close without any financial help or pubs and hotels etc will go under, most are barely surviving. If football is to continue behind closed doors then most clubs will struggle again , with no match day income how will they offset any running costs, they may save on policing and stewarding. The logical thing to do would go.to the winter break earlier and cancel games including the game against the Huns on the 2nd. Already Scotrail.are cancelling services due to staffing, wont be long until the Police say they dont have enough people to police the games anyway

Listening to off the ball from Saturday this morning and Leitch says it’s more the pubs and public transport ect that’s the worry more than the actual game. Either way it’s pretty gutting as we were told that once we are vaccinated it would all be rosy again. 3 jabs later and we are going back to the same restrictions probably.

    Agreed.

Not keen on games without fans in the stadium. Provided any break is for a short period of time, I would rather just delay the games entirely.

We have a planned break from after the 2nd Jan anyway…. It’s within the spfl powers to decide an early halt … easily called for after any Boxing Day games. No big difference to the overall picture and can wait until ‘safe’ to restart with fans or restart a few days earlier if able to.

Celtic need to be taking a proactive stance on this.

And how exactly does * off a sizeable chunk of the population give her more power?

    Honest to *.

I have a sneaky suspicion that she won’t be cancelling games or closed doors but reduced capacity (that would keep the football authorities happy and reduce the shitstorm of not having enough weeks in the year to complete the season, and the furore it’ll cause if behind closed doors)
    So
All those that got picked for the early season ballots will be gutted…but I never got picked and would expect to get the next closed doors game on the 2nd

100% we should not play they reptiles behind closed doors. If she says no fans at sport the club should push strongly to bring the break forward. No way should we play it

Her decision will seem validated once it pressures Boris into introducing the same measures in England, as all the English will start clamouring for it once they see Wales and Scotland doing it.

It’s been the way since day one. People will be giving it ‘Oor Nic always acting first and leading the way!’

    Hopefully it's a shut down.

Anything else and we're up * creek.

A decimated squad playing in an empty stadium.

    No thanks.
