You can't be serious, his corner taking is atrocious. He either takes a short corner or tries a cross which usually hits the ground before it's even reached the six yard box. It's the reason we very rarely score from corners

Felt heart sorry for him, when he was out for so long and rehabbing at Motherwell the chance to win a trophy at Celtic must have felt like a million light years away and another injury curtails his final.

Him trying to play on and then crumbling when Ange telt him he was coming off was heartbreaking man.

Canny mind ever seeing a Celtic player so devasted at an injury like that. Was brutal seeing him on the bench in absolute bits.

Correct. Should be nowhere near set pieces.

Seconded. When he first started taking the free kicks, he looked like hitting the target every time. His corner taking is bad tho.

I think he has so much talent and he's still young enough to improve. I think a few weeks out will do him the world of good. Bitton for me is the player we need in midfield beside McGregor. Bitton is far more mobile than Turnbull and has that we quick burst of pace and strength to drive forward into space. Also gives McGregor the opportunity to play further forward. Hatate will be a big asset in a midfield like that. Constant running, constant hounding of defence. I worry for Turnbull when he comes in.

Think he said Muscle injuries. To be fair, it's a valid point. I have no problem pushing the players in training every session but when your squad is lacking depth and injuries are starting to mount up, you need to try and alleviate that somehow. You do that by either taking some intensity out of training or stop playing them in so many games. With the likes of Turnbull, there is cover in that midfield. He can drop him but has refused to do so.

Yeah, was nearly 100% positive he was referring to the amount of hamstring injuries we are picking up just now. It's been a few. He needs to address that somehow

He said muscle injuries but what was his point? The guy’s just turned 22, it’s no as if he’s had a 20 year career and never pulled a hammy ffs.

Maybe if his body was prepared for intense pressing when he was 15 and being coached by Craigan he wouldn’t have pulled up yesterday.

You do if you aren't constantly practicing it. I get the feeling his training focus from the backroom team has been on other aspects of his game. But if he is the designated set piece taker he should be practicing them consistantly, I'm just not sure they actually do.

I think it's up to the individual, I've heard a few players staying on after training just to hit freekicks/corners for hours after the rest of the team have gone, Beckham and Ronaldo two of which.

I know if I was a set piece taker at celtic I'd be practicing all the time I had spare as the amount of chances your going to get is amazing. It screams to me lack of effort or lack of desire to want to progress your game. Watching celtic this season from set pieces is like when you watch a * game, whoever can hit the ball hardest gets to take the frees.

You would think so, but possibly he has been told not to by the sports science guys to avoid causing further issues with whatever problem he had before by repetition of movement. I know that is probably not the case, but he may be working to instruction, for some reason, and not doing that, as it seems likely he was routinely practicing them when he was at Motherwell.

the best free kick takers or corner takers etc etc usually stay behind on training days and days off to practice.
practice makes permanent and all that.

Have a read at the article below:

Redknapp added: “Half of these kids walk into a football club, get a contract and their feet under the table and as soon as they finish training they are off.

“He wanted to practice and it rubbed off on the group with Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Glen Johnson, Jermain Defoe. I always saw Frank upped their training and work ethic and he set the bar so high.

“We need to produce new kids and they should look at Frank and what he did, that is what it’s about. Be the last one off the training ground, go and work on your weaknesses and extra time pays in the end.”

He’d be out in the training ground on an afternoon two hours after everyone else had gone home, practicing, getting his spikes on, shooting, in and out of the cones – practice, practice, getting fitter. He used to go home at night and run around the streets for three or four miles after training. He was non-stop – relentless – he wanted to be a player.”

They aren't kids, the should use their own initiative at times they know what they need to do on their own - very frustrating when we get corners and set pieces to no avail as they can be critical especially in games like this St Mirren. I have been harping on but we need to be more clinical in games
