Was always going to be wait and see for the final tbh.

I honestly wouldn't risk him for the next two games anyway. Should only he in the squad for the St Mirren game.

I’m happy if he makes the huns game. Dying to see both him and Jota rip them to shreds

Ange Postecoglou revealed the injured Kyogo Furuhashi and Celtic’s medical team had contrasting expectations about a return date for the Japan forward.

But Postecoglou fully expects his key striker to be back before Rangers visit Parkhead on January 2 and would not rule him out of next Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final against Hibernian.

Celtic came through their first test without a recognised striker by beating Motherwell 1-0 thanks to a Tom Rogic strike in first-half stoppage time, following an inventive free-kick by David Turnbull.

Turnbull was Celtic’s most attacking central player with Albian Ajeti and Giorgos Giakoumakis out alongside Furuhashi.

But there was another fitness blow for Celtic when James Forrest trudged off with a muscle problem early on after starting in the left-wing slot usually filled by the injured Jota.

Postecoglou had earlier revealed Furuhashi’s injury was “not significant”.

“Albian Ajeti probably won’t be back before the break but Kyogo will definitely be back before the break,” Postecoglou added. “It’s just a matter of seeing how he feels.”

When asked about Furuhashi’s hopes of making the Hampden clash, he added: “Mate, I could say yes, I could say no. If you ask Kyogo he probably would have played today, if you ask the medical team, they would say he’s out for two or three weeks.

Furuhashi missed the 1-0 victory over Motherwell — courtesy of a Tom Rogic goal — and is almost certain to miss Wednesday’s league game at Ross County.

It’ll then be decision time for Postecoglou and the player for Sunday’s game with Hibs at Hampden in the League Cup final.

Postecoglou — who also had to replace winger James Forrest in yet another injury worry — wasn’t specific when quizzed on the £4.5million hero’s chance of the final.

He said: “Mate, I could say yes, I could say no.

“If you ask Kyogo he probably would have played today. If you ask the medical team, he’s out for two or three weeks.

“I’m kind of taking a stab in the dark in the middle somewhere — but I’ve no idea.

“I’ll be guided by the medical team and Kyogo.

“I can’t rule him out for anything — but you can’t rule him in.

“I don’t know. We’ll wait and see. Like I’ve said, it’s not a significant one.

“Albian Ajeti probably won’t be back before the break. His is definitely more significant.

“But Kyogo will definitely be back before the break. It’s just a case of seeing how he feels.

Kyogo saying he is ready to play immediately is very different from the medical team saying he's 3 weeks away. One of them surely has to be closer to the truth and I'm more inclined to believe the latter.

Not really a fan of those vague responses from Ange. Maybe he genuinely doesn't know what to do or tell the fans, just seems like an iffy situation.

It’s obvious that’s he’s simply suggesting that Kyogo is keen to kick on and play, but the medical team are (correctly) being more cautious.

One of the things that have noticed with Ange is that he is pretty cagey about injury lay-off assessments and estimates. Even when it's a given timescale answer, he seems to use it to wrongfoot public/media/opponants etc. For example, more than a few times he has declared that players were not going to be fit/not ready/not available for certain matches, only for them to be in the matchday squad, and often starting. It literally happened at the weekend, when on Friday he said Ralston was close but was not going to be part of the squad for the Motherwell match, only for him to be there and came off the bench. Couple of weeks ago it was the same thing with Rogic and Starfelt etc, and quite a few other examples of it.

Could be something similiar is being fed to the media etc re Kyogo?

we know why mate its ange ball, players going flat out all out attacking high energy footballl, its a policy and philosophy weve been trying since ronny delias term as manager

thing is the squad is woefully under prepared for a full season of it, i dont blame ange though this is on the board they better get the finger out their arses in january and spend some money

If he’s not passed fit by the medical team then don’t rush him back for the final, league is more important.

We made that mistake with Elyounoussi in the final vs Huns and he was out for ages afterwards.

    Kyogo is too important.

Think he’s a guarantee to be playing at the weekend. Wouldn’t take Ange’s comments literally.

Hope your right as it would be a massive boost if he is fit for the weekend.
