Can maybe understand why, as we'll want to (hopefully) put funds aside for Maeda, a CM and a LB. Didn't really see us spending £10 million in January.

Need to be smart about this, don't want Benfica suddenly deciding he's good enough for them and convincing him to stay.

 

Spunking 6.5M on him in Jan would likely mean very little else spent.
Guess its better spending money elsewhere, winning league and auto qualification for CL should be enough to convince him to sign permanently.
Only other way would be to come to an agreement with Benfica, sign him in Jan, with a few million up front, the rest in summer, something along those lines.

 

If we lose Jota in the summer there will be * riots.

The better he performs the more Benfica will look to a bigger fee, get in the kids ear... He'll opt for somewhere else.

Sign him * NOW.

 

I’ve got a bad feeling the board is going to wait till the end of the season before they even consider activating the clause.

They will want to make sure they have champions league money if we win the league to fall back on.

We will get the same old * from them, we tried, value for money, just one of them things etc.

Just get the * deal done now you parasites before it’s too late.

 

I'm not so anxious about this being done now. It would probably be bad business for club (with regards to cash flow) and player. Jota may want to focus on his season before any negotiations. Nobody else can nick in before us. The deal is done unless the player himself rejects us.

 

I remember we tried to get Gudeitti signed up in the January when we had him on loan and that backfired somewhat. I still think his agent will be telling him to hold off until the end of season anyway

 

This is it. I think it's basically down to the player now and he will be advised to wait. It's best for all parties. Guidetti never really seemed to appreciate it here. I'm hoping Jota does.

 

Given that the price is already set this will be all about the club and Jota agreeing to personal terms and if he wants to stay long term which hopefully he will. But I do think us winning the league and thus guaranteeing champions league football for next season could be the decisive factor. It does seem like he really likes the club and is enjoying his football so he might agree to sign long term anyway but I think if we can win the league and have champions league football then I think that will probably seal it.

 

Said it before, win the league and its a no brainer, for him.

 

Like every other player in the world he will want to keep his options open till next summer and then move to a club with more money than Celtic could offer.

 

Cl football.....lol. Seriously now its not like we are there every year. Have we not seen enough players leave to realise that epl wages are more important than getting humped out the CL before the groups.

Yeah I'm pessimistic but KT was the last straw for me, Then there was the RAT but less said about him the better....time and time again we get let down and I refuse to get my hopes up about any player no matter how many times they kiss the badge.

 

I'm with you on KT. That was a real eye opener for me in terms of the pull of the money down south these days. Was sure he'd never leave before the 10 season. I've now lessened my expectations to loving a player whilst they play for celtic and if they do well and don't mess us about like edouard I wish them all the best and onto the next one. It's just the way things are right now with the ridiculous money in those leagues.

If jota wins us the league playing like he is but moves to a club playing at a higher level at the end of the season I won't hold it against him but if we haven't offered the money and at least tried in January I would be asking big questions of the board. All I want for Xmas is Jota!
