Chris Sutton has reminded a critical Neil Lennon that much of Celtic 's current strife is "on you".

The Parkhead legend countered the former manager's cutting criticism of the club with a rather frank analogy featuring "horse manure".

Lennon branded Celtic's defending "kamikaze" under Ange Postecoglou following Thursday night's 4-0 Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

Record Sport columnist Sutton accepts it's Lennon's job as a pundit to dissect matches but pointed out the damage from his old team-mates final season in charge is still being repaired.

Sutton told BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra: " Neil Lennon calling them kamikaze last night, I understand the criticism and we're here to analyse the style of play.

But a lot of this mess was on Neil, and that's just the way it was.

It's like somebody dumping a big lorryload of horse manure on your front garden, moving out next door and then complaining about the smell.

    That's the way it is.

"The bottom line is, this guy needs time. In a year, if Celtic are getting pumped in Europe with kamikaze defending then it's going to be an issue.

"At this moment in time, Ange Postecoglou needs backing."

He’s not, just a more sensible one. Unfortunately being a big Celtic man doesn’t exclude you from being a * zoomer.

Think he was right in most things he said, however, the context of him saying them is * bullshit. He’s 50/50 with Lawwell in us even needing to rebuild, and him refusing to acknowledge the slightest bit of blame makes every comment come from a hypocritical and plain wrong place.

Right, what's happened between Lennon and Sutton in the past year?

Wasn't too long ago Sutton was right up his * and he could do no wrong.
We all remember the deila years where Sutton was so against the guy because he replaced his pal.

Where the * has this sensible and realistic view on Lennon came from?

    Ha! What a * cheek!

Chris Sutton was one of the main culprits in ensuring Neil Lennon limped on for as long as he did.

Right at the start he played into the idiotic narrative that we were better with Lennon than Rodgers, then he started saying the players were letting Lennon down and creating that whole theatre over Elyounoussi being on his phone.

Genuinely surprised Sutton was so blunt about Lennon's part in our current state, last season he was tiptoeing around it as much as possible. Wonder if they've had a falling out or something.

Maybe they were just remarks I perceived to have been in poor taste and just demonstrative of how completely deluded the guy is with regards to last season. For example, when asked about Frimpong and his abilities, he used it as another opportunity to lay blame for last season solely at the team’s door, saying something like “Yea jez was great in his first season, lacked the same drive last year like a lot of them”. Neil, you were asked about the lad’s ability in a general sense, not wether he and the other players can be blamed for last year. Completely lacking in professionalism, but that would be true to form from our Neil.

There’s a point to be made about the application of the team last year of course, but what Lennon fails to acknowledge is that that morale is something that comes from the top. But of course, nothing is ever his fault.

Out of work Neil Lennon has opened the door for a surprise career move to Israel following his Celtic departure.

The Northern Irishman left Parkhead in February in the midst of a disastrous Premiership campaign and has been in the football wilderness since.

However, he now appears to be keen on a return to the dugout, admitting he is keen to go overseas to manage.

The 50-year-old reckons he has a good knowledge of the game in the Middle East through some of the players he has worked with at Celtic .

Appearing on football management agency Scoutpush's social media, which is operated by agent Dudu Dahan, he admitted he would be interested in the shock Israel switch

When asked if he would consider the move abroad, Lennon said: "Yes, absolutely.

"For starters, Israel is a beautiful country. I have a great affiliation with Israel, with the football, because of the players I have worked with and people I have met like Dudu, friends and colleagues over the years

I have a good relationship with Dudu, who is a big agent in Israel, and he brought me lots of players.

"I have always kept an eye on the bigger clubs, like Maccabi, like Be'er Sheva, even Ashdod because we took Efe Ambrose from there originally.

"So definitely, it would be something that I am interested in. I have always wanted to work abroad."
