He's the reason it was 2-1 but also the reason why it wasn't 5-1

Still really like him but it was a silly mistake

Every keeper has mistakes in them, unfortunately for them they get remembered for the mistakes and never the good. If a striker misses 3 sitters but then scores they are remembered for the goal.
I don't understand why people are trying to blame him for the 2nd goal though.

It looked to me like he completely misjudged the pace on the ball, and was expecting it to run through to him, then when he did go for it he got caught trying to decide where to play it rather than just putting his boot through it and took his eye off the ball.

I am expecting some howlers from him this season, he's had them his entire career, but he will probably have a couple every 10 games or so, where the other 2 keepers are more like 10 every 2 games. If he can just keep them to games where we are well in front and it doesn't end up costing us though, that would be very much appreciated as I don't think my nerves are up to too many games like last night.

And kept the score to zero on the first leg..

One of the reasons and a very big reason we are in the Europa groups is because of Joe Hart...

All this chat of making a horrendous mistake, but also keeping us in the tie reminds me of how it used to be with someone we used to know… !!!

welsh made the balls up after watching it a couple of times i would hazard a guess that hart thought welsh was gonna continue his recovery run ,why he then tried to cut inside their attacker rather than stick the boot on it is yet another mystery.maybe hart and starfelt are crazy gamblers and backed celtic to get beat and still progress

    No, he didn’t.

He got enough of a touch on the ball to direct it towards his Keeper. Job done.

That Hart thereafter stood and waited for the ball to trundle towards him was not Welsh’s fault!

Both were at fault, probably more on Hart but Welsh should have done a better job with it.

Looks like Joe followed his own advice after the howler mistake.
“Regroup & make saves” which is what he did.

Welsh did what his manager wanted him to. He kept the ball alive in circumstances that should have resulted in us keeping possession. We can’t blame the lad for that.

Joe did as well, until it crossed his goal line.

Made up for his mistake but being honest, he shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place.

See being fair in that situation Welsh had no idea the ball was going to hit him and was a bit dopey but there was still enough on it for Hart to come out and clear well ahead of their forward getting in.

He did make a couple of strong saves later in the game but that mistake set the tone for us having done well to get an early goal. We don’t lose that goal I think it could have been a different game. Probably still up against it at times but I think we may have picked them off better on the break.

That was a howler but for me the attempted punch at the edge of the box was every bit as bad!!! Experienced goalie, what was he doing??!!!

One of the problems with a manager coming into a club with a specific system in mind is that you need players that can effectively execute it. Hart is clearly uncomfortable playing outside his goal. At 34, he's probably quite unlikely to improve significantly in this regard. Presumably if Ange can't adapt his system to fit around Hart, we will continue to let in embarassing goals on the counter as savvy teams learn to exploit a glaring weakness in the way we play.

    He's still a touch rusty..

He hasn't played regular football for a good while..

He needs to be quicker to react with his feet. That wasn't good enough yesterday..

His shot stopping has been spot on overall..

Yeah, even his reflexes look somewhat slower than the Joe Hart of old (obviously considering he’s aged etc).

That first goal was an absolute howler, no excuses whatsoever, he had an absolute brain fart and nothing else.

That being said, big big important saves lst night, as well as the first leg. So aye, still comes out smelling of roses, despite having stepped on dog *.

I liked that despite making a total * of that first goal he clearly didn't let it bother him, rather than moping about after it he ran back to his goal to get the ball and go again.

Made 2 outstanding saves thereafter and its undeniable over both legs he kept us in it.

He'll make mistakes, he's always been that type of keeper, even in his pomp. He'll also earn us points on his own by making saves, something we've not had in a keeper since forster left last time around.

It was a mistake but have confidence in him. Likeable big guy as well. Better than the other 2 wanks anyway
