Celtic boss open to more Japanese signings after Furuhashi goal-rush

    Aug. 22 03:56 am JST

    GLASGOW
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is ready to return to Japan following Kyogo Furuhashi's successful start to life with the Scottish giants.

The new Hoops boss knows the J.League well, having been the head coach of Yokohama Marinos, and he moved quickly to sign Furuhashi, with the Japan striker now having scored six goals in his first five starts for Celtic.

"I have been looking at it very closely," Postecoglou said Friday. "I know the Japanese market very well.

"It's a tricky time because traditionally they are still mid-season," the Australian added. "There's a lot of players I would love to have a look at closely and bring over but I know it would be almost impossible to get them out because clubs are still playing for the league or cup or (AFC) Champions League competitions. So they are very reluctant to let them go mid-season.

"Traditionally it's always been easier to get them out in our winter break, which is their end of season."

The former Australia manager insisted J.League footballers were too often unappreciated.

"There's a lot of talent there that people haven't realized," he said. "It's not to say they are all going to be of Kyogo's level because I was super confident about him.

"He has dominated that league for the last three or four years. I was surprised he hadn't left earlier to be honest, we were kind of lucky he stuck around for a bit.

"But there is definitely more talent there and it is definitely a market we are looking at closely."

Celtic, fresh from their midweek Europa League win over AZ Alkmaar, face St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday ahead of next week's second leg in the Netherlands and a trip to arch Glasgow rivals Rangers, the reigning Scottish champions.

"I would be very surprised if anyone is taking anything for granted," said Postecoglou.

"The world, and the football world in particular, changes pretty quickly and once you take something for granted you will get brought back to earth.

"I haven't sensed that at all with this group. The key thing for us is that they are enjoying their football, they are getting their rewards, and for the most part none of them want to miss out."

"He is keen on another central defender, which would likely be loan move, and will look at a versatile midfielder and another striker - especially if Odsonne Edouard was sold before the close of the window."

    Record.

Scales to come in at LB it seems at least until Boli goes.

Versatile midfielder is interesting if true.

The difference being that nearly everyone on here who bagged Ange has been big enough to say they were wrong...delighted to say they were wrong.

The only peep out of Brazil in recent times was to pretend some revisionism while making a joke of Ange's name again.

Ironic bagging someone's foreign name when you're named after a distant country.

Two big games in a short space of time. Need to finish off the Dutch early to take the wind out of their sails. Short turn around before the game at Ibrox. Hope the lads recover in time.

Yeah this is a bigger game for us than it is for Sevco. Our Uefa tie is going to be harder than theirs and to win we really need to play really well. Come out of that on a high we will beat Sevco in their own backyard.

I've got faith in the big man, seems to getting this team playing better by the week.

If, if, if he can be given just a couple more signings he should be going into the shitpit on high bigger than the one they are already on.

Don't expect to gub them 4,5 or 6,but if we can keep a clean sheet and win 2-0 and control 60 odd % possession and restrict them to something like 3 attempts then their lot will be foaming at the mouth and want slippy dead.

Would love to see a solid performance against AZ enabling an early mark for some senior players. The fresher the spine, the bigger the skelping. Huns about to get their first taste of Angeball.

    What a * legend.

He must be loving it here and we love him. It's been a couple of weeks and we're all Ange's * and I love it.

I'm holding out, but if he gets us past AZ and achieves at least a draw at Ibruxism, my resistance will fold.

    Resistance? Whit?

He has literally turned us around and heading in the right direction in a time less than an Eastenders Omnibus.

We would've been slaughtered home and away by AZ under Lennon and would've struggled against St Mirren and Dundee.

Two tough games are required to confirm the heading, though. We will have tougher games than Dundee and St. Mirren.

Going through against AZ and a draw against the rancid * this week would be decent. Thinking of where we were a month ago I would take that. There will be further progress from us throughout the season and be confident off them dipping and us running over them come January.

Fs I'm down there all the time and I've no met him yet.

He must live in the new builds at Easterhouse. I'll probably bump into him in the Spice Cottage one night.

Rubbish, there are plenty still skulking about.

Once we win the league there will be an inquisition into the first 400 pages of this thread, and the doomsayers named and shamed! :68:

I for one am very proud of my efforts on the first 400 pages.

Less proud of the pages around 500.

    We move on...
