What happens when Ange leaves? That's why we need a DoF.

I noticed that a lot of the guys that sit around me who usually leave with about 10 - 15 mins to go, sat till the very end. I think a lot of fans around the stadium also chose to do that to acknowledge what big Ange is trying to do as well and that's why it was a bit of a nightmare getting back up the road last nigh as the roads were choccablock

Ange always seems very evasive when asked about the DOF situation. I suspect he's never worked with one and would be a tad concerned about it. Every chance he gets he re-affirms that he's the one that makes all the football decisions.

He clearly needs help somewhere - to take the pressure off - but don't screw with his judgment FFS!

Ange seems to want to be involved with the youths and recruitment etc. What does the DoF do and what if him and Ange disagree - these successful types usually have big personalities and egos so room for conflict.

If everyone has clearly defined roles then there won’t be disagreements. Ange would be 1st team Head Coach, we should then have heads of other departments - Youth, Scouting, Analysis etc all overseen by the DoF.
It’s relatively simple and a system employed by practically every club in modern football. We just have this fear of it thanks to our stuck in the past media and board.
You don’t see fallings out at other top European clubs between coach DoF - it’s usually the owners/presidents.

The DoF can do negotiations for players instead of the CEO.

I think the idea of him working with a competent DoF who he has perhaps even suggested is a frightening prospect, tbh. Frightening in a good way, of course.

We definitely need some sort of footballing link/separation between him and the board.

At the very least, a new head of recruitment.

    I don’t know how much I agree.

I think it would’ve been a hard-ish sell with definitely some backlash, but not as bad as Lennon. I remember the crowd reaction at the treble treble celebrations - Lennon was extremely unpopular and many people predicted what would happen, the only question was how long it would take.

I think if Ange was sold as someone who was very similar to Rodgers style (which he is in many ways) then the support would’ve took to the idea quickly - because it makes sense.

Most of the ire at Ange coming it at this point was around the scale of the job needing done. No such situation existed when Rodgers left.

It would’ve been a similar appointment to the succession planning you see in Germany, where similar managers are brought through to continue the philosophy rather than constant marquee managers.

Fair enough. As long as they all know and agree to their roles. I just think sometimes you can have too many managers in an organisation. I maybe think that because I work in the NHS.
Also, things are going so well at the moment I'm scared we change anything that might rock the boat.

We are a football club with a couple hundred employees. The NHS employs over 3.5million people.
Should be less to lose control over :giggle1:
