You’re making it even worse considering Murray won it twice and Nadal before him.

Yes it’s probably the lowest accolade in football. But you can’t deny the teams and players there are in it to win it.

Could that not be said for every team in every sport though ? Play to win. Winning a gold in the 100 meters at the Olympics is different from winning gold in the football it's nowhere near the pinnacle of the sport so doesn't really carry much weight

The Olympics is just a grown up version of Sports Day.

Are you saying that they do not pick their best players for the Olympic squad ie under 23 squad ? So they do not want to compete for a gold medal representing their country ? Are you serious ?

Olympics lost all credibility when it added team events, went from * to professional, and sold their souls for sponsorship.

Olympic Games used to be inclusive, now if your no training from 4am to 1am your no even getting to the finals never mind qualifying. All in all the Olympics is *, Mon the Celts and gee me mare signings!

I believe he is. Football in the Olympics isn't seen as a big deal in plenty of countries so they will use it how best suits them. Not saying every country approaches it that way.

Personally, I think having football in the Olympics devalues it. What is the point of it with so many other strong international tournaments. Really it is just cashing in on footballs popularity as opposed to furthering */semi-* sport - which is always what I have seen as the main reason the Olympics exist.

Well no because you said it yourself, some sports the Olympics are the highest accolade. Your man was trying to say the results don’t count because the accolade means nothing in football. Which is naive. Which goes back to my initial post.

    “Accessible to all”

Is it *, I wouldn’t know where my local Archery club is, nor rowing, nor sailing, nor fencing, nor hockey, nor ………. You get my drift. The modern Olympics is literally for the privileged not the working class.

Im saying it ain’t the cream of their U23’s. That’s a fact. I never said they aren’t competing for gold. I’m sure they think their team is good enough to compete. But it’s not the “cream” like you said. Not in Argentina’s case. You look at Spain’s squad, that’s cream.

What does that mean? Anyone could compete but now you’ve got to work hard for it and that’s a negative?

That’s call being a professional athlete, where the Olympics was supposed to be */semi-pro that’s where it’s all gone wrong nothing to do with working for it. If Adidas pay you to train, whilst some other person has to train, work, look after the kids etc then the person being sponsored to train all day has a distinct advantage over the rest of the semi-pro/* sportspersons. The olympics are literally the top of the elite sports category, breaking into these sports unless your sponsored or extremely rich is near impossible for the everyday person.

Sorry keep getting baited into talking about this * and no transfers.

Yeah track and field events it's the pinnacle or very close to but team sports like football it really doesn't hold much weight I couldn't have told you Brazil won gold the last time until the commentator mentioned it during their game. Of course the teams playing want to win it but similar to playing in a pre season tournament you want to win it but who cares really if you don't

We agree, I’m not sure what we are debating. It’s all got a bit lost over a few discussions.

    You’re talking heavy guff mate.

Some elite athletes come from the toughest backgrounds and get there through hard work. If you want it, earn it. You act like they are handed sponsorships the way you call them privileged. They’ve all started somewhere too.

Some have families who can find them, some had less then you and me. It’s possible if you’ve got the talent and desire.

Utter drivel from you acting like my gran should be able to take part if she wants.

It’s you baiting me with your complete pish. But aye back to the football.
