Think with him as well, he’s still dead slim but he’s got some frame on him.

He’s some scope physically to develop.

To be fair with Walsh he is not the biggest of defenders, when he was 18 he might have been quite small and physically weak and not many teams would have given him a game.

I think Connell and O'Connor have the same problem now even though they are 19 and 20 they are built like 15 year olds, they have no strength or pace about them at all and even in the Scottish Championship would probably get bullied.

Murray though is well built and should be playing professional football already.

The biggest fault we’ve always had is giving the youngsters gametime. Too many high pressure games that demands the full team.

If we go down that route the fans need to dial back expectations significantly.

We have 3 CB who look like they have a high potential for me, Hjelde, Welsh and Murray.

Welsh currently being ahead of the pack.

Possibly so, but that's really no excuse for not getting him on a proper development plan.

Does he lack a tiny bit of acceleration on the turn?

That's the only weakness I can see from him moving forward..

Well nurture him at Celtic and drip feed him the game time to get good enough. A crock of * IMO players need a certain amount of games by a certain age. Football isn’t an exact science. Again comparing welsh to Murray straight away is the wrong thing to do... every player develops at their own rate.

I disagree. We’re in the perfect situation to develop youngsters.

The amount of games we have that are non events because of how far ahead we are of the rest of the league is frightening.

Even talking about high pressure, he probably won’t feel more pressure than tonight. Him coming onto a European game with us down to 10 men.

The more games the more experience you get, when you sit in the development team not playing professional football you tend to stagnate.

We would need to find these 60/70/80 games for Welsh, Murray and Hjelde. Don’t think we’ve got them.

We were 25 points off the top last year. That’s not so far ahead it’s frightening.

Did fine. Great option to have. Would have never got a shot under Lennon.

So 60-80 games for talking sake... Patrick thistle( using them loosely) accounts to 20 games with Celtic, champs league qualifiers n all equate to the same experience? Come on man

He isn't really filled out though, by the time he is 21 he'll probably be about 20lbs heavier than he is now.

How does that equate to 20 games with us?

Because we had an incompetent * in charge.

We wouldn’t have been 25 points behind if we played the youth instead of * like Duffy either.

What's that got to do with his acceleration? :giggle1:

I'm no worried about him filling out, he's only 18..

Gees peace. Celtic are more than capable of nurturing talent giving them enough game time and experience without having to send them out to play a certain amount of games against hatchet men cos they apparently need to play a certain amount of games :56::56: l

I'd say it would be better for him at Partick Thistle. Nothing beats playing every week really.

At this moment all he's ever played against are teenagers and children, 90% of whom will never become professional footballers so they're not even that good. Playing at even Scottish Championship level theres a physicality, pace and roughness that you need to get used to. Theres old experienced guys who know how to lean in and turn you that boys you've played against your whole career never did. Wee things you pick up on and recognise, probably also notice earlier that you're a bit weak and need to spend more time in the gym and eat more to bulk up which you might not do as quick if you continue to mostly play youth football.

Even at Partick Thistle you will be playing with better and smarter players than you played with your whole youth career.

Could be right, could be wrong. What we know is that is the fact and the personell we have just now is a worse team than it was last year.

I don’t want to drop the likes of Julien when he’s back at something like Tynecastle away to make sure Murray or Hjelde gets gametime if we’re neck and neck for the league.

I want the guys getting a full season under them, week in, week out.

More muscular, heavier and faster. Look at Ajer at 18 to Ajer at 21 to Ajer now he's got quicker and quicker the bigger and stronger he got.
