Did you see much of him before us last year? Because that’s not a clear idea of his career before us.

    * got Space Jammed or something.

    Honestly, not much.
I happily got swept up in the notion and confidence of the lads who follow Irish and English football more than I do.

I'm surprised he is still claimed to be better than what he showed us last season, because that was rather horrid :56:

It was an anomaly in his career, I was buzzing when he was announced. Felt that was exactly what we needed, the idea of Julien Duffy and Ajer together was an excellent one. Like many things last season though, it went to *

Arguably, with a competent manager, would the thinking be that a back 3 of those 3 would see Julien and Ajer be ball playing/carrying defenders, with duffy just being the brute/no nonsense?

He started so well as well, didn't he score a couple early goals for us?

Pretty much mate. His first couple of games he was with Julien and it looked a strong defence. Then it all went to pot.

Initially I thought * that.. but then you know what you are getting with him and he would improve whatever defence we have immediately. It might even help Barkas in the long run, so aye, if its possible get him in but don't let it drag on.

Yeah, let's get another short term fix from someone who has already rejected us. It may help Barkas by giving him another year to watch games on the bench, flushing our investment in him down the toilet. Further denting his confidence. I've heard better plans to be honest.

Suggest the plan you have or heard, to get a guaranteed instant improvement to our whole defence, in fact the whole team would improve with him there.
It’s not just a short term fix, but it’s a definite fix that might or might not be long term.

I don't want him on loan.

Regardless of what happened with his last transfer I don't want us in the same position 12 months down the line.

Also as much as first and foremost I want our keepers to be good at STOPPING the ball, I do worry about if he would suit the proper intense sweeper keeper role I can see Postecoglu wanting.

Its why i felt Mat Ryan would have been a great option. Always looked good at both aspects of modern goalkeeping.

No denying FF is * quality though. So I'm torn. Even if we are paying 40% of his wages that's still him as basically our highest earner so he wouldn't be coming here to not be the no1 and I doubt Barkas would stick around.

As has been asked, lets hear your plan then, that would see an immediate improvement in the defence :50:

Signing him on loan for another year is just kicking the problem down the road. Will be in the same position in 12 months.
Also, where is the pride here? He rejected the opportunity to win ten in a row with us before. I'm not going to pretend that football isn't completely driven by money these days but get off your knees and have a bit of pride. Would you get back together with your wife if she left you for another man a year ago? Trivial comparison but it illustrates a point.

My plan: persist with Barkas and build up his confidence. An alternative is: buy a keeper that isn't Forster.

I don't get that idea of having to address the issue of recruiting a 'long term' keeper next summer. 1. Despite the history books, Forster may decide to stick around longer. 2. Players aren't one club men anymore. All players must be replaced at some point and it could happen in any position where a player is flying and leaves after a season. 3. If Forster does leave (again) after a season, at least it gives us a year to scout and recruit a keeper properly for the 22/23 season.

Pride? This is a result driven game. You don't win prizes for pride. If Forster comes in and does the business, I couldn't give a flying * that he rejected us when we needed him the most. Regardless, it's nothing like a marriage. One you swear an oath to be together forever, for better or worse. The other you pay them for a service for a fixed period of time. Footballers are whores if anything.

I think it's madness to reject a player of his quality just because he thought the grass was greener. We'd know what we'd be getting with Forster and he has the potential to win the league for us. We're in no position to turn that down if he is available.

With flawed plans like that she probably tried plenty of men before going.

Fine, going by what he suggested is a better analogy. Would you stay loyal to your * if she rejected the opportunity for you to hire her services a year ago... actually, don't bother answering that, I know what the answer will be

After last year, so now completely desperate, and you know that one is 100% guaranteed to satisfy your needs with zero risk then yes, I'd have another go :56:

4 year contract or bolt, like he did last year in arguably our biggest * up season, I'd rather we went for woodman

I’d be delighted to have him back. An immediate improvement and we need as many players like that as possible.
