This is looking like , "get us through this one then we bring in players " I hate this part of the pre season, its so frustrating watching the same scenario repeat every fkn season.

Long time lurker? Way to read the room mate...

There is no way in the world Ange is using Celtic as a lever into Europe. If you really have followed his career you'd know that every job he's ever taken has been to some extent a passion project and he doesn't move on until the project is complete (unless he gets very badly let down (like Greece).

Ange is here to turn Celtic back into a Euro powerhouse - with or without the cunting board.

"He should have had this locked in before he took the job imo". Was what they said.

Makes sense to me. If he's walked into a job blind and with no commitments that just * stupid.

Do you think the rallying calls via the media will be effective? I suspect not.Yep I do know Ange and that is why no transfers locked in along with no research of the board really suprises me.

And that’s my point. Is pure speculation assuming he hadn’t locked any of that in. It’s very unAnge like.
The board is for sure * him around. And you can sense it in some of his comments.

He is a great manager but won’t have the time to get the team playing how he wants.

I do get that. I just don’t think Ange will return Celtic back to the summit this year which is why I think finishing second would be his best case scenario (which is not what the supporters will be wanting).

I am definitely a neutral but do follow the teams that some of our national squad play in. Celtic have been one team I have kept an eye on for years as Dukes, McDonald, Rogic and Arzani etc have all played for Celtic. I would love if you returned to the top again but I don’t think Ange would be able to achieve it this season.

If dividends were contingent on football success then I reckon we'd see a different approach.

I don't know the whole story but I gather he was invited as a favour to some Greek friend to come and rescue Panachaiki (I think) who were languishing in the 3rd division.

He wasn't working at the time and doubtless was keen to see the old fatherland so he agreed to do the favour. Applied his usual methods - got rid of a couple of wasters - got the team fit and playing Angeball - completely turned them round and was poised for promotion - then had a falling out with the owner/chairman who'd failed to come good on a promise, so he walked. Aussie Greek or George T might have more info.

My hope is that Ange will be aware that board will be aware that he has form for walking (also did it with teh NT after qualifying for the WC Finals) and that he will be able to use that as a form of leverage. If the fans like Ange and teh way he has the team playing, they'll be deeply upset to see him go before the job is done.

I was a bit young when Ange was in Greece but just to add on to this

    https://www.shootfarken.com.au/the-life-and-passion-of-st-ange/
    Ange in Exile

Cast into exile, Ange returned to the country of his birth to prove himself at the biggest club, Panachaiki, in Greece’s third biggest city, Patras.

The old red and black club — which according to legend was founded by anarcho-christians, anarcho-communists or just plain old anarchists — was wallowing in the Greek third division. Ange was on a mission to march them back to where the club belonged, the first division.

But he had a problem, the club was owned at the time by an egomaniac lawyer and a meddling billionaire Greek-Australian property tycoon.

    And did they meddle.

Behind his back they had decided to acquire 12 players and release a similar number. Yes, you read correctly, 12. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

On 21 December 2008, he resigned immediately after the final whistle. He walked over and thanked the fans and departed with a record of nine wins, five draws and two losses.

He left the Sodom and Gomorrah that is Greek club football.

As I have stated before on an other thread - want to get the Board out ? Lose the first 6 games of the season on the trot . That will show up their incompetence and their disregard for the supporters. That will have the fans baying for their blood and deserting the terraces en masse.

    G'day guys

Another annoying Aussie taking a keen interest in how Ange performs at the helm of Celtic as I've always kept tabs on them from a distance but will now add them to the other middle of the night venture I support from a world away.

Been an interesting read this thread and the passion is obvious and there for all to see regardless of which side of the (many) arguments people have been on! haha

I've followed Ange very closely and am an unabashed fan of his methods and the fact he backs his philosophy and has played some absolutely fantastic football along the way. It's included the miraculous win of my local side the Brisbane Roar in the 2011 Grand Final and their amazing streak.

My take on Ange and some of the current comments on him
    * He's definitely no yes man. He's not one to stamp his feet with demands but he's a man of his word and expects the same and, like his football philosophy will stick to his guns in that respect. You don't qualify your national team for a World Cup then walk away before the tournament because people have changed the narrative if you're simply a yes man, and he did.
    * He LOVES a challenge and a rebuild! He'll come in, clean the slate and be very clear about his vision with players and staff alike, give them the opportunity and then observe and make his decisions on who stays and who has to go if they don't buy in.
    * He's unwavering in his beliefs and what he expects from players fitness, workrate and loyalty to the bigger picture. If they think they'll cut corners or not buy in, they'll be gone, simple. He judges his sides by performances NOT just the scoreboard so there will be times he'll win but they'll know they were well under what he expects, that's what makes him good.
    * He's a winner, he's been successful at every post he's taken and won trophies. From local leagues to Aussie leagues, to Asian leagues, to the National Team to Asian Cups. He improves sides and wins.

While as a pundit he was always affable and interesting to listen to, post game interviews for these games he certainly doesn't typically love but knows they're required. That along with the fact I'm sure he's knackered would be contributing to his overall demeanour currently as I'm sure he's working his * of during the day trying to instill his style into the squad day after day then working his * off after hours discussing players arriving, leaving etc etc.

Don't be surprised if the squad looks tired for the next match as he will have them loading miles into their legs but then look to taper and freshen them for their CL match and you'll see a different side, did it repeatedly in national team camps on limited timeframes.

Lastly, anyone suggesting he's Pep and co at this stage in his career needs to give their head a wobble but, he's a good manager, a hard worker and will bring your youth through with the seasoned guys and you will see attractive football this season. I have no doubt whatsoever he'll have a positive impact, just how positive that is remains to be seen but think you guys will be pleasantly surprised what he can do.

    Apologies it's long lads.

Appreciate posts like this that give a bit of context to the current situation. I think a lot of us are too quick to write the man off although in fairness we're just so used to being let down by our inept board.

I have every faith in Ange and think that throwing accusations around about him being a yes man is not helping matters at all. I trust the man to stuck to his word and if he gets * around he will eventually call the board out and be completely honest about it. It's just far too early to be judging the man.
