And even if it turns out we are keeping Ajer we should still be buying someone else, like either this guy or the Croatian, with a view to next season, so we can sell Ajer and have a ready made replacement, as well as cover for this season. But we just don't do forward planning like that.

Why would Ajer want to stay?

He's been here during immense highs and can clearly see we're in some state now..

He's been vocal in his desire to move this summer and has stayed a year or so longer than he was promised..

Maybe he thinks he can improve under Ange. Or he isn't happy with the quality of team that is coming in for him and thinks his stock may be higher after a good year and he can get a better move. As I said it's unlikely but not impossible he is having a rethink.

I could be wrong but I'd say there's no chance he wants to be here by the end of the window..

And on the balance of evidence we have you are more than likely right. I was just pointing out the tweet potentially may not be saying what most seem to be taking it to mean. Though even I think it is the more likely to be the depressing, but typical of how we operate, meaning that will turn out to be the case.

Might be seeing the figures getting thrown about and knows as a free agent he can get a cut of that, £2m/£3m sign on fee.

If it was me that’s what I would do.

We're * if player's start actively going down that road with us..

Rumours of Edouard and Christie also being happy to do the same..

Honestly mate if it was me and that option was there that’s exactly what I would do. They wanted the move last year and we stopped it and got them to play against their wishes, now we’re in the opposite position where they could just play another year and come out much better for it financially while still developing another season here.

Don’t see the downside for them personally.

Aye there has been numerous player's in recent year's who've said or alluded to being promised to leave a year or so earlier than they have been. Breaking promises to player's isn't a good look. The rat said how we told player's to come here for 2 to 3 year's and they could go on to play in England/the bigger league's.

The downside is another year playing in Scotland. Halting their development possibly..

And the last bit probably depends on what they judge Ange as. If he’s looning really good in training and they’re feeling good, why not?

That would go against everything he was saying though. He said it was best for him to leave because the club would get money and he would get a move to a bigger league. I don’t believe this is Ajer holding up a move, this is the club demanding a fee we won’t get. £12m plus a considerable sell on is a good deal. Mental we are turning that sort of cash down, especially given the fact Eddy will likely stay because of lack of suitors

I know but he might be looking at the teams that are in for him for that money, where as a free agent without the money involved there will be a lot more suitors.

Potentially but he’s not going to get a bigger move than say a Bauer Leverkusen. Even as a free transfer. I know it seems to be Norwich and Brentford going for the deal but he’s a footballer, he should trust his own ability to go and perform for any club in a bigger league. I think this is the club, not the player. Especially with the rumours of bids being turned down.

Bayer was who made me think of it tbh, they pulled out quickly while hearing the price. They would be a much better option than the likes of Norwich.

The board will see that as covering the spend last summer.
Even if we sell Ajer, Eddy and Christie for a combined £30m, I see a £10m max in buys with some loans on top. The board are tight arses.
