I’m not entirely convinced that Edouard will go. There seems to be a lack of suitors

This may sound controversial but I think we should keep Ajer and Eddy by offering them a new extended contract. With both showing signs of wanting away, particularly Eddy as he looked like he lost interest and downed tools, nobody seems to be wanting to take a chance on them as they may do the same to them. It would suit them both to extend and get the move they want. All due respect but Ajer is better than going to Brentford, Eddy hasn't had anybody other than a rumoured Leicster interest, Eddy didn't make the French Olympic team. If they both knuckle down for 1 more season and show their true potential then offers will come in from bigger clubs. Another season will allow clubs to recover from this season due to the Pandemic. Their stock will rise, so will their value we put on them. We offer them 2 year extension with a minimum buy out, its a winner all round. We get a decent price for them, they get a big move. It would save us money in the long run rather than spending a few million on somebody who may not settle etc. With them nuckling down and signing an extension we have more chance of winning the league than us risking them hanging around seeing their last year out.

Or they don’t sign a new contract, “knuckle down” and get an even better deal.

This is really simple, they were promised they’d allowed to leave this season. We keep our promise or we ruin our reputation for players in the future. We need to follow the Salzburg model.

Ajer should be sold for £10-£15million with a sell on fee.

Edouard should be sold between £15-£20million with a sell on fee.

We really shouldn’t be making it difficult as. Should accept reasonable offers.

It's as if people don't think we have been trying to get them to extend for a couple as seasons as they knew this was going to happen. FFS waken up :56:

You havent quite grasped my point. In the current climate Clubs are not going to offer big transfer deals with big wages. As they both have indicated they want away, i.e not wanting to fulfil their contract other Clubs will take this into consideration when looking at players, especially when Eddy looked to down tools, he could do it again. If they want that big deal to a bigger Club then they have to show they deserve it. It would be best for all parties if we gave them an extended contract, they may actually improve under Ange, maybe they showed they wanted away because of Lennon? lack of coaching? Lack of forward thinking? Stay and improve, show what they have and we get more money for them.

Mate, I grasped your point. I know exactly what you’re trying to say. It’s just not realistic. We aren’t signing them up to new deals. Do you not think we have already tried that? This idea about them somehow getting a conscious because they downed tools? Absolute no chance. If we keep them here, they walk out in June 2022 for * all and we lose the chance to cash in on assets l. They’re not signing new deals. It’s not going to happen. We either cash in now or we lose them for * all next year. It’s that simple

So your point is… clubs are less likely to pay big fees and wages this summer. They should therefore sign a new deal and work hard and get a big move next summer.

Why would they sign a new contract when they wanted to leave last summer and were promised they would be allowed to leave this summer?

Also, they want to leave, so why would they sign a new contract when next summer they can leave for free and get a bigger wage because there is no transfer fee?

Better Clubs will come in for them with all respect to Brentford. If they stay and run down their contract then they will be no good to us, they will not be motivated. We haven't brought any players in of note, our PR machine is in over drive linking us with numerous players that will never happen. We have a bare squad for a CL qualifier, any player signed now outside the UK more than likely wont be available because of quarantine. Sometimes it's easier to try and stick with what you know. I don't think there is a hells chance of them signing an extended contract but it is an option we should look at. Give them a contract with a release clause. I dont think Ajer or Eddy were the bad apples, as for Ntchamp and Christie, they need punted asap.

From the clubs point of view it makes sense, but that’s it.

For the players it makes sense to let their contract run out.

Feel like we are becoming the joke of the transfer market.

Other teams be like: “oh Celtic, yes, yes, ok let them make their cheap opportunistic bid, we will say no, they up their bid by * all, then we laugh and say don’t call us if you get serious, then we all move on.”

Celtic are set to step up the chase for Rennes ace Brandon Soppy while continuing to push to land Carl Starfelt.

Boss Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bring in new recruits for the new term with it already looking too late for next week’s Champions League qualifying first leg with Midtjylland.

Attacking full-back Soppy has shot to the top of the wishlist with the 19-year-old available for around £4million as Rennes are determined to cash in on a kid in to the final year of his deal.

Hoops chiefs are also still in the hunt to land Sweden international Starfelt, despite the move hitting a snag over the transfer fee.

Celtic were confident they could land the centre-back for around £4m, but Rubin Kazan are attempting to bump the fee as they face a hefty sell-on clause with former club Goteborg.

The 26-year-old played 45 minutes of a pre-season friendly for Rubin on Saturday and Celts won’t hang around if talks continue to stutter.

Postecoglou is also eyeing Spurs youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has a £5m price tag while Celtic have asked to be kept informed if former transfer target Ben Davies is available on loan from Liverpool and Hajduk Spilt’s Mario Vuskovic is still part of the conversation.

The Hoops also want to resolve Kris Ajer’ s future after turning down Brentford’s staggered £15m bid. The asking price has scared off Norwich and Newcastle.

Looks like we will bring in two centre backs if Ajer goes.

Interesting that they have stalled the move for Starfelt while the Ajer move plays out

Which could mean we might only proceed with our number one choice till then.

I think Vuskovic is the one we will get over the line

As far as I am aware - Ajer has been the most open and clearly stated that he wants to go and believes he has an agreement with Celtic.

In today's market - 15m (staggered or otherwise) is a decent price for Ajer. We will not get 20m. He should be allowed to talk to Brentford.

15m for Ajer and 18-20m for Edouard (both with sell on clauses) are realistic prices in today's market.

If we end up keeping them, we will have two dissatisfied players who will almost certainly sign pre-contracts with other clubs in Jan.
