I think Norwich could be a bad move for him, if that's where he goes. It's always going to be tough to impress as a defender in a team that is likely to be fighting for relegation, shipping a lot of goals, and has a good chance of going straight back down. It's something we have to be aware of as that can have a huge impact on any sell on clauses. Potentially it may even be better to let him go to a stronger team (like Leverkusen if they really are interested) for the £10m but with a higher sell on clause. It's all ifs and buts at the moment though, as we don't even know if anyone really is interested in him beyond paper and twitter runours.

Thought losing Hooper to Norwich was rather embarrassing. Ajer has a much higher ceiling, he’s well better than * Norwich. Grim losing players to wee diddy teams with their only ambition being: cling onto the premier league money teet for dear life.

    I disagree.

They'll be odds on to go back down and already have been thumped out of that league under the same manager.

Finishing bottom 3 as a CB in a relegated EPL side won't take his career on the right trajectory. Same as when Hooper went there, they didn't create enough chances for him to score the goals needed to get noticed. Made zero sense.

Just wish he was offski already tbh! I mean Ideally it would be great to keep him, but he doesnt want to be here as we all know.

This rebuild should have started sometime ago...

Harry Maguire got relegated with Hull in 2017 but still made a name for himself, Leicester picked him up & a year later he is the captain of Man U.
Ajer can easily do the same with Norwich. He needs to go to a club where he will play every week & get noticed.

There's the odd exception. For every Harry Maguire, they'll be a thousand center backs that go down and fade into obscurity.

Of course there are exceptions but they are based on how good a player is. If Ajer goes to Norwich & performs well bigger teams will be interested in him regardless of relegation. The bigger clubs prefer buying from relegated clubs because they are not in a position of power.

The biggest clubs buy from whomever they like, except each other, because they always have the buying power...

Don’t see the issue if he goes to Norwich. Chelsea are trusting them to develop Billy Gilmour, and a season of dealing with constant pressure and being the underdog will definitely improve him as a defender.

One, two good seasons and he’ll move to a top side.

If he’s as good as we think he is, which I think he is a top 6 side defender potentially, he’ll stand out still and get his move.

Brighton are fighting relegation every single year and Ben White could be heading the champions league holders for £50m. He needs to play.

As we are seeing with Brighton & Ben White the days of the big six bossing the the little guys around are fading. Arsenal have been told to up the price or no deal. Even the lower end clubs have money & don't have to take the first bid any more. Players want to play for the big six but a player can make a name for himself with the bottom eight.

You are missing one very crucial difference: Ben White is English. They are always going to be more highly regarded (usually way overly regarded) than a foreign import. Even if Ajer did well at a Norwich for 1 season and they go down he is unlikely to get a big money move. And he will never be seen (in the premiership at least) as being as valuable as a comparable English player down there. * harry Maguire cost more down there than Van Dijk and Maguire is *.

VVD is definitely better than Maguire but Maguire is still a very good CB.
There is a premium on English players & good on clubs like Brighton & Leicester cashing in on that premium.
Only time will tell but I'm looking forward to seeing Ajer play every week against good opposition.

He is well capable of going to a mid table team and play every week. He does not need to go to relegation cannon fodder like Norwich.

There does not appear to be a massive line up for is services. I feel Norwich suits him better than Newcastle but we will have to see if any other Prem teams are interested.

What does it matter where he goes? Fact is he doesn't want to be here so personally I couldn't care less where he ends up.

As long as the other team pays what we ask and the player is happy to go there, I’m with you.

There are still mistakes in Ajer and for a CB he's not the best in the air. Yeah he's fast and decent on the ball but team's will have noticed he's got a lot still to improve on.

We need our players to do well when we sell them, Van Dijk’s showing down there is what got us £25m for KT and £20m for Dembele. Before that we didn’t have a reputation for producing players for big leagues. The better they do, the more money we get in future for players.

No disagreement from me on that. But he is still only 23 and already has so much to offer. He clearly has a great attitude and will IMHO end up being a truly top draw centre back. Certainly he is already well above the level of relegation cannon fodder like Norwich IMHO. * given how well Tierney has done for them and how average their current centre backs are Arsenal if they were smart would be putting in a bid.
