Well, his approach to the media is probably largely based on the fact that he worked for the media down under too. He's well aware of how it works, when he's being set-up for a trap or getting played because he's dealt with all that himself. Strachan and Rodgers also didn't take * from the media and they were fine - although I'd say Strachan was often unnecessarily confrontational at times

Ange did work for Fox Sports for a year or two but only as an analyst type dude.

He was never part of any shenanigans and was just marking time until an acceptable job became available (Brisbane Roar) - where he rebooted his career.

Howe would have been a far safer choice in my opinion. He may well have got Bournemouth relegated, but he was a victim of his own success in all honesty. A club of Bouremouth's size, and given where they were when he took over, should not have been reaching the EPL.

At a time when we need a massive rebuild, I think having knowledge of the EPL and lower leagues is pretty important, because I think it is more likely the player can adapt to life in Scotland, and will probably settle quicker. If we weren't in the position of requiring 10 or so players, then I wouldn't be as concerned about gambling on Postecoglou, because let's not be under any illusions, it is a gamble, a massive one I feel.

When Howe didn't take the job, for me it was clearly a sign of things to come. He was either being forced to keep Kennedy and Strachan, which now looks likely that was the case, or he was told what the transfer budget was going to be, and given the amount of players we require, he hasn't fancied it. Or it was a culmination of both these things.

I have nothing against Postecoglou, and I would love it if he can turn the club around, but I feel the only reason he is in job, is because we are going to be shortchanged once again by this board. That is the problem I have with his appointment. We will have a better idea come the end of the transfer window.

Unfortunately for Howe the English Press made him out as some Great White Hope who was going to one day manage the national side. He has loads of potential but I believe that he felt he had to live up to all the media hype regarding his abilities. Plus his club did not use funds correctly to help him. I am sure he will become a very good EPL manager in future given the time and first grade experience. Too much too soon in the top league plus all the expectations that go with it. The club never made any major signings that I can think of. The good players were sold to other EPL clubs so Howe was deprived a core of players he could continue to advance with. That is what I believe.

Howe was too loyal to Bouremouth in my opinion. He could and should have moved on when his stock was high, which would have been after his first season in the EPL.

Regarding the keepers I would like to make some comments. I believe that a club needs to have two equally capable keepers and two understudies. The two prime keepers need to be competitive with each other in training, encourage each other, be professional, be mates, and keep each other sharp and hungry for that first 11 spot each week. A sense of guarantee breeds complacency. They should also get relatively equal game time during the season, and be in a match ready state in case the other keeper is injured. I would welcome two equal quality keepers, rotating between home and away games.

A case in point. As far as I can remember, Don Revie had that policy at Leeds Utd . Panathinaikos under Puskas had two keepers of equal ability in Economopoulos and Konstantinou. The first had the height, great ability at blocking shots with his feet and dealing with crosses and most of the media attention because of his film star looks. The second was a keeper with cat- like reflexes and a twitch factor that allowed him to pull off incredible saves with shots from far and up close. They complimented each other and were a successful combination.

I would like to see that happen at Celtic also.

We already have that. All our current keepers are equally capable :50:.

Not from what I have been reading for the past 3 weeks on this forum. They were woeful last season, but so was the defence according to what I have been reading in the posts.

He possibly means they were equally woeful so equal standard. For me Barkas was actually the worst but they got no protection from the defence. If the whole team are playing better this season then the keepers will benefit from that too.

Is this in response to me?

If it is it proves my point about Australian fans (assuming you are Australian) immediately going on the defensive about him.

My post wasn't even being negative and the tone of your post is immediately on the defensive :giggle1:

There is zero denying this is a left field appointment for Celtic football club. And I wanted Howe over Postecoglu aye, because I am aware of him and how he works. He's a very good coach.

I know nothing of AP and he was managing in Japan, so I feel that's a bit of an obvious answer.

If you're unapologetically biased towards ange and don't see his flaws, then as an Australian, you (not you in particular, but a few here) haven't seen him in action.
On the other hand * I hope the guy absolutely smashes it. I just can't wait to see him when (if) they get on a roll or (,hopefully not) * hits the fan and he's got his back against the wall.

I reckon he might just do it.

I think he can win the league.

Was talking to my mate about this today. He reckons he's willing to accept not winning the league this season, OR NEXT SEASON. Bigger picture and all that.

I strongly disagree. I reckon big Ange can take this wee scouse nyaff this season. The man got every one of us on board after one press conference and one training video. The players we have and are in the process of buying, I've no doubt will buy in big time also.

I think we have a great chance of winning the title back.

I think we need to give Barkas a chance he had a woeful defence in front of him, he moved to a new country barely speaks the language will deffo not be used to the food and is probably home sick, I don’t know if he has a wife and kids but if he has he might be getting grief from them to. Hopefully we will see why we paid 5m for him this season

I don't want to even contemplate his appointment not working out. He's winning every trophy available to him and I won't hear any different.
