Half the squad were miles off where they should be all season. I know Griffiths let himself/us down during lockdown for the start of the season and rightly took pelters for it, but he obviously got himself fit enough to be on the bench and get picked when Lennon was desperate for a goal, if he was really unfit the whole season then surely he shouldn't have been picked or anywhere near the bench at all. Having Lennon come out and put the boot in this week was an absolute joke, when he himself obviously wasn't imposing any sort of fitness standards across the board. I'm at the stage with him now he could tell me the sky's blue and I'd doubt it, he was definitely picking the lineup out of pure stubborness at times, and not just where griffiths is concerned.

I was on the fence with him getting another chance but if Ange thinks he can boot his baws and at least be useful backup then great, I'm sure he'll still want a new 1st choice striker with Eddy on his way out though.

Well he did play some games during the season so clearly he was fit enough to play games, and sometimes he got 45 mins or 60 mins so he was able to play when asked. Even a blind man could see there was friction with him and lennon. Yes griff does not help himself and i think he is the kind of play who needs his hand held to get the best out of him,but imo its worth it.

1 year deal. Sorry Leigh but like Ralston you're another that's fell victim to the numbers game. Keep you about this season to allow more money be spent elsewhere for the rebuild.

Would rather he was gone to be honest. Fit and focussed, he's incredible but I just don't trust him now.

Not over impressed nor unhappy about this one. It’s weird as if he gets up to usual tricks we can blame the board for their penny pinching but if he does well it will be seen as a good bit of business.

No harm, it's the year extension, yeah?

A year to prove himself to the new manager, we keep a guy on a reasonable fair wage that we know if he knuckles in can do a turn.

If it was heavily performances based I would not be against it but I doubt it is but we will never know.
The club should have lined up a striker to replace him using money from Klimala by now.

I was going to say that also and they know Eddie wants to go and still waiting to bring players in and the league season starts in 29 days time .

July 26th, let's all remember these words from Lennon a week or so after leaving him out of last seasons trip to France.
Deemed him in "great condition" and "really good level" stating "he needs a little bit of time in terms of his football"

So before even August last season Griffiths was deemed to be perfectly fine - match sharp lacking, obviously.

What was the now infamous nonsense Lennon spouted for not playing strikers for large parts of the season? Non are match sharp?

Guess what, you get that by playing them.

Ajeti, Griffi, many others off the pace for a long while last season - never helped by playing Christie out of position in favour of them.

And we all wonder why these guys gave in the towel and struggled for sharpness?

News flash, it was all Lennons *!

Griffiths has his issues, he knows it, we know it. He needs to be motivated and focused to be in condition. Many footballers do, for decades now. Doesn't help when we have a manager absolutely devoid of helping the guy(s).

I am more than willing to give him this last season, Ange will get him in shape if he wants to be, if so, he plays and does well and we all get on.

If not, judging by Ange character, we won't see him again and his contract likely terminated early.

Aye it's not a good state of affairs, pretty sure this won't be big Ange's decision, he'll dance to the Board's tune.

Would rather we had put his wage into a new signing that is fit and raring to prove themselves rather than give Griff yet another chance to do it. Fair enough if Ange can get him fit and focused but I have my doubts.

    His wage is irrelevant.

Even if he wanted to stay for free he should’ve been told to get to *.

I don't actually mind this. That says more about the state we are in as a club just now though. I thought this would happen as well because our recruitment has been shambolic, so this is where we are now.

Everyone is forgetting we are not a club that goes out and signs a load of players in one window good enough for the first team.We always sign one play or maybe to and then bulk it up with crap loans or cheap *. The defence is a * train crash and for me i would spend what we can on that.

A dunno, i think a lot of fans have short memories. 2 seasons ago after xmas lenny played him and eddy together and went on a superb run before the pandemic put things to a halt. It was that partnership and switching to a 352 that got us back on track

None of the strikers apart from Edouard got any decent run in the team. They were all getting 20 minutes here and there for the majority of the season. Absolutely no good to any of them. Lennon cut off his nose with Griffiths last season. He called him out and rightly so for not returning in good enough shape, but his stubbornness meant that even when Griffiths got a couple of goals from the bench early in the season, Lennon still wouldn't play him, then called out a few players after the Ross County defeat for not being match fit. What did he expect.

Highly sceptical about this deal. Classic short term move, which we seem to excel in and why we are floundering at this time.

Doesn't say much or allude to a change of direction in the way the club is heading.

It's up to Ange to make the decisions and who he wants to keep. His comments about Leigh knowing what is expected of him. But can he deliver on those promises is another thing. Can he be available for more than 10 games a season?

Not particularly enamoured with this deal. But I'm only typing my thoughts onto a forum post and not party to anything else which led to this decision.

It's up to Griff now to prove the doubters wrong. We still.need to bring in a quality striker if and when Eddy goes but we can't get rid of every player. We obviously need quality signings for the starting 11 but we need to retain quality for the squad. We know Griff has goals in him, he just needs to screw the nut and grasp the opportunity if Ange starts him.
