Scoring more goals than your opponent wins you the game.

That is THE most fundamental part of football.

Would you rather lose a game trying to defend, or lose a game trying to win?

Unflexible thinking is very dangerous for a Celtic manager, ideally we want somebody who knows how to get a result off the PSG’s and Barca’s but will also * pummel St Mirren.

Your PSG's and Barca's will come to Celtic 8/9 times out of 10 and completely dominate us and win comfortably. Playing pragmatically will only allow you that possibility of the 1/10 win.

There's a reason why Martin O'Neill made Celtic fearsome on the European front - because he never bought into sitting back and hoping for lucky wins - he got in their faces and gave them a * game! I'm sick of us playing with a small club mentality. We get in their faces and try and outscore them. If we lose doing so then so be it. I'd rather go out and lose like Lions than roar like *.

I'd rather set us up so we didn't lose the game.

Martin O’Neil was pragmatic as *, we want the same thing. I just don’t want us to spread our legs and say mon inty me playing tippy tappy ‘nice’ football against * like that.

If you set your team up to score goals then there's a good chance you will score goals.

IF you set your team up to sit back and try and hit teams on the counter, then you give these teams freedom of space and time on the ball, which ultimately sets them up for greater creative time to score goals against you.

I'm not talking about tippy tappy sideways fitba - I'm talking direct, pacey in yer face fitba.

We're not good enough on the European stage to try and play possession-based fitba against the likes of the examples you gave above, but what we can do is try and get on the front foot against their defence and at least have a * go against them.

Football's not hard, it's just made hard by overthinking and tinkering.

It's horses for courses. The same style will not work in every single game, which is why flexibility and pragmatism are required at times.

I hope I am wrong, but I fear a potential Tommy Burns mark 2 scenario. Wonderful football to watch at times but not much to show for it come the end of the season if Ange isn't willing to change things up when required. Time will tell.

Aye, and by remembering how to defend.

Defend properly and attack properly mate, you need to focus on both.

    Aye, obviously ffs :56::56::56:

I'm not suggesting we neglect defensive areas, that's for the defence to do their jobs properly.

I'm specifically talking about us playing with diddy team mentality anytime we go up against the "big guns" and try to sit back and grab goals against run of play, or "lucky goals" if you want.

Absolutely sick of it. We either go out to try and win the game, or * lose trying.

Wouldn't you say yes straight away if offered the Celtic manager's job?

Of course not, but he could easily have just said "he's the guy I wanted, my first choice, no other candidate for me, didn't look at anyone else" nonsense.
He instead made repeated points that he was very much aware of the guy before last month. Considering we all sort of assumed this was purely a Lawwell and City Group connection on the lazy front. It was good hearing Dom repeatedly state that this is someone Dom was chassing.

Paul from Celtic fans tv says if he got a chance to speak to the board he would ask what is the club’s strategy to avoid the constant failure in Europe which i thought was a good question, but Kenny from Celtic fans tv who was at the press conference ended up asking a daft question

I was only saying the other week that Clarke would be better in Europe for the same reasons you mention above, then along comes the Euros and i totally take that back :giggle1:

There’s too many managers who ignore that part and usually it’s the ones married to a philosophy.

100% need to be defending on the front foot.

Take that Scotland game against Croatia, sat off the defence and let them pass it out. It would be won by defending that pass before the ball gets to Modric to control it.
