Imagine the manager of us trying to wave goodbye to the fans after a cup defeat to a team 3 leagues below us :56:

I’m assuming this is from after today’s game anyway.

That’s been a major concern of mine too.

It’s all well and good having his fans saying he’ll
take no *. It might well even be true while he’s managing in Australia or Japan. It’s an entirely different situation here though, with players whose ego’s he’ll need to accommodate. He doesn’t have the gravitas to stamp his authority in the manner you would see a Ferguson or Mourinho do. I just hope he can adapt to it.

The one Celtic song I hate is "over and over" as its a * dirge and always played over the tannoy after some * abject failure against Cluj / Prague or another "glorious" defeat.

Every time I read this thread I just hear that song in my head.

"why should a Japanese result matter to us?"

Yeah let's see what the reaction will be like if the same happens here and we get beat on pens off Stenhousemuir.

I'm sure anyone who doesn't know Scottish football would still be raising a few eyebrows at that kind of upset. Losing to a championship Hun team cost Ronny his job FFS.

We didn’t though. We lost the first half of the tie.

To be fair if they had knocked us out the CL that year who knows how much time BR would have got.

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t give a fiddlers fart that the Japanese side he’s managing lost in a cup game before he * off. Couldn’t GAF about the reasonings being thrown about or how they played etc either.

I have the same huge reservations about the guy that most do but that game is utterly meaningless to how he will or won’t succeed here.

The further down the line we’ve got with his appointment the less restrictive I find my thoughts towards him are. Ultimately he deserves to be backed and he deserves the clean slate everyone coming to Celtic should get. Until such times as it becomes apparent he’s not up to it. Most will say that’s already apparent but let’s see.

You're getting upset about something that hasn't happened mate.. we havnt been beat by Stenhousemure on pens.. it was a different team beaten in a different country..

If we do there we'll by uproar. Let's just wait and see before we sack him because of something that hasn't happened

I'm not upset about it mate, just saying it hardly the best result to reassure the many doubts of the support around his appointment. I'll support the guy like I supported all the managers before him but people are justified in judging him by results with his current club imo. It's all we have to go off at this point.

We could go off the fact he's won silverware in 3 of his last 4 jobs (the exception being a team that he left prematurely to take up his national post). Surely those things are more relevant than a one off cup game?

O'Neill had Treble/Seville but also had Inverness. Strachan had Man Utd/Milan/Last 16 but also had Clyde/Bratislava. Lennon had Ross County/Morton. Rodgers had Red Imps etc etc. These results happen. Its not going to reflect what happens here.

That's true, but to insinuate people are daft for showing an interest in that game and the result when the guy is all but confirmed to be our manager is what I don't get.

Of course we're gonna be looking at how his current team is performing.

100%. Always found this song depressing. I agree with a lot of the lyrics but as you say, it’s often played after some miserable defeat to try and appease the fans misery so that they turn and up spend the following week.

And Eddie Howe last results got his club relegated.. 99.9% of us including me would of taken him..

Don't want to go around in circles about Howe and results again. Look hes not my choice or the vast majority of us but today's result has sent people off the deep end, do you honestly think it has any baring on his Celtic career?

I've come to accept he's our new manager and I'll judge him now on his Celtic results.. if it goes bad he will get it both with barrells

I think it's exposed the naked truth of his managerial credentials :fear:

But Howe didn't get beat by a team 3 divisions below his. I don't think it will have a bearing on his Celtic career, of course it won't, but to completely dismiss it would be as ignorant as dismissing his achievements.

I hope he produces the kind of football the Aussie posters have been waxing lyrical about and proves the doubters wrong, I'll wait and see but coming in off the back of a cup upset while your team is third in the table adds fuel to fire where those doubts are concerned.
