What point are you trying to make here? Qualifying through Asia is no walk in the park.

Players don't exactly cope well moving from European winters to playing in 40 degree and 90% humidity matches for world cup qualifiers.

In terms of the Oceanic qualification, again what is your point?

Australia had a * good side throughout the 90's and 00's and struggled to qualify.

Namely because we had home and away knockouts against the likes of Argentina and Uruguay.

Pushed Maradona's Argentina to the brink in 94'.

Won at home but lost the away leg after some notorious gamesmanship from Uruguay in Montevideo in 02'. Uruguay hadn't lost at home in WCQ for decades.

Qualified for the WC through Uruguay again in 06'.

South American sides like Argentina and Uruguay are no walk and we more than took it up to them on each occasion.

In 2014 we got to play a playoff against CONCACAF and Honduras and rinsed them.

Good old TC. From manager talk to Neighbours, to Eastenders to 80s Corrie in the space of a page.

Hate all of you for the spoilers though. Some of us still have cooncil telly you know.

I've just watched the Royle family there with Eddie Yates.

Quite sad really with Caroline Aherne, Geoffrey Hughes and the wee granny dead too.

Asia is not a small pond mate.

If anything it made the process more difficult in a way.

South Korea, Japan and Iran are strong football sides.

The gulf countries have improved a lot over the last deacade also. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the Uzbeks are all ranked around the likes of the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Ecuador and Greece.

As I previously said, the away conditions are as challenging as the opponents themselves alot of the time. It's something as European fans you don't really experience.

We've had to go to Kazakhstan/Azerbaijan a number of times for qualifiers. It does get quite hot there, which is a challenge coming from Scotland. Don't see how that's a problem for Australia though?

I'm sure that would be totally an honest assessment.

Whilst quite warm, I doubt either of those compare to playing in the sheer scorching heat of places like Oman or Qatar. You also have the unbearable humidity and heavy air of certain parts of the Far East.

So... When do we expect an announcement or even an update? Surely someone's got ears to the ground around there.

It's a bigger jump in climate from Scotland to Baku than it is from Australia to Oman though. Plus the club sides are heavily invested in and of much higher quality than their national teams. And I'd still expect us to beat teams from that area every time we were drawn against them.

I'd rather orally pleasure the corpse of Lizzie Birdsworth daily for the next 30 years remembering each day her corpse and private parts would deteriorate and rot frightfully, than have this fella as Celtics manager.

Am i right in saying since Australia changed who they play in qualifiers they have qualified for every world cup since but prior to the change, they last qualified in 1974?

That reads to me like it might be easier now for them.
