Potential Manager Suggestions?

I really don't think Celtic will appoint Ange Postecoglou as our new manager. I don't think they will take the risk. I didn't like the way Howe treated us, as though he was using us as leverage for another potential job offer, as though we might be a step down in his career when in fact we're the greatest club he would ever have the opportunity to manage. I'm glad he's not going to be our new manager, and I can't say I wish him particularly well for the future.

When I first heard that Ange Postecoglou was a potential candidate for the Celtic manager job, I was as surprised as anyone else, but I was also a little bit excited by the prospect. I don't know if Postecoglou's a good enough manager for our club, particularly at this time when there is so much rebuilding work to be done. Everyone on this forum who has criticised the prospect are of course right to do so. Most people on here would never have heard of him before. But, from the little I know of him, he is extremely determined, has considerable football intelligence, and has had success on an admittedly much lesser stage. The thing I like about him is that he would get us; he would be Celtic minded. He understands the immigrant experience, and would absorb the ethos of our club. I know that doesn't qualify him to be our manager, and it does seem as though the board are panicking right now (and this is something else that counts against Eddie Howe, as he must've given the board the confidence that he would indeed be coming to Celtic, and they didn't think they needed a Plan B).

In the unlikely event that Ange Postecoglou does become our new manager, I hope we all get behind him. It's not his fault we're in the position we're in, and he'll be doing everything he can to help us return to where we deserve to be. He may not be good enough. But, *, I hope he is, and that he shoves Rangers back into the dark, reeking swamp where they belong. HH.

Was it you that said he done nothing of note before we appointed him? If so clearly he won stuff so moving the goal posts is silly.

My point still stands this other fella knows absolutely * all about European football, players etc.

Dutch league is better and produces better players that’s a fact. Ajax produce some of the best young players in Europe for * sake no wonder they do well.

Now back to Jansen, I went through the 90’s the expectation was always low due to them winning everything.

You can actually compare each time scale because we had such an advantage and the board * it.

When Oldco done the same what did they do? They got a very well respected manager in * Advocate who won them the league again.

What are the board doing? Looking at a fella who is what 4/5 down the list? Done absolutely nothing in Europe and hasn’t really done nothing of note.

Callum Davidson would probably be on par with this Aussie fella or in fact better since he has won more here.

 

They spent about 60-70m over 2 seasons under Advocate and they battered us, but arguably that was the start of their demise.

 

Mental to think all these years later we don’t even spend that in about 3-4 years

Never thought I would utter these words but Keevins actually gets it right in his column today. Rambles a bit to begin with but eventually makes some good points.

 

Biggest worry for me is that, we presumed anyway, that Howe was doing work in the background to prepare for CL qualifiers. Although we know it's not true now, it at least gave some comfort while we waited on him being announced.

Now we have a guy with no experience in European football. We're not sure how his knowledge of the transfer market is in Scotland, the UK, Europe ...

That's a massive concern. Will he be mainly trying to bring in guys from Australia and Japan ?

 

I know Harkin is supposed to be the new dof and likely to be in charge of recruitment if rumours are true but surely Ange would want some of his own signings as well.

 

Would love to see how Ange does with a quality squad and good finishers.

He won't unless they can do the job which to be honest is nobody apart from maybe Mooy and Maty Ryan.

 

As the assistant will be Kennedy, I think there is an issue.

 

If Kennedy is the assistant then that's the real reason Howe didn't take the job .

 

Nakamura to return? Knows the city. Can still hit a free kick, and the manager knows of him?

 

He'll be involved, that's a certainty. The board's clype.

 

If Postecoglou is appointed manager, he will have to fight in order to win the favor of fans. Assuming the new season starts with fans allowed, Celtic Park will be mostly empty for the first few games.
