He deserved a crack at the 10, now it's time to go, at least he knew when he was finished unlike Lennon.

I will admit that there was a time when I was pretty critical of him. Especially that last WGS season and the TM season, when he was very much a bit of a headless chook. Think he had leadership qualities but he wasn't ready yet to actually be the captain.

The thing is, there was still a quality player there, as he seemed to be playing better football for Scotland at that time than he was for us, perhaps because as he was not the captain at the time, whereas for us as captain felt had to do more, had to put more in, had to try and be everywhere and do everything, and irocincally by doing that, had the complete opposite effect, and as a result was a bit of a liability?

Admittedly he was also trying to play on while carrying a serious knock that needed proper treatment, surgery and recovery, but he kept on playing on anyhow (something that McManus also did, and had a similiar detrimental effect on us also) and all too often meant he was a little slow getting there, or late with the challenge and seemingly those couple of steps behind and constantly trying to play catch up.

But coming back from that lay off, he was a much more disciplined and professional, grew into the captaincy and became a much better player and asset to the club as a whole and to the team as a result. Then when seemed to be not quite as sharp, in came BR who again redefined what he expected and Broonie was able to evolve again.

Football is a cruel and fickle game, with little room for sentimentality or fairy tale endings. It would've been great for him to go out on a high, having lead to 10IAR, but he has been below par this season (along with pretty much everyone), but when the leader is struggling off the pace it often resonates throughout the dressing room, and while other players can be fitted in and removed based on form etc, managers tend to be much more reluctant to do that with captains.

Thank you for 14 years of great service to the club. It is an end of an era - wish it had've had a better ending, there have been the ups and downs along the way, but think when we all look back it will mostly be with fond memories and deservedly take his place in the pantheon of Celtic greats.

People might disagree but if fan's are back next season then I hope he gets a proper tribute whether it be Celtic Park or Pittodrie first. Before the game or on the 8th minute or that chants of Broony ringing out..

    Hero..

True, he wouldn’t be able to find Christie as he hides so well.

Shouldn’t be too difficult to find, standing 40 yards from goal swinging at anything that comes near him.
