Pre-lawwell we was beating Ajax, Juventus, Liverpool, going to a European final.

Enter Peter lawwell and by the end of his tenure he has managed to make us question if we will even be able to scrape in to the 3rd tier European setup.

No one expects us to have kept up with Juventus, Milan's, Bayern, etc...
But teams like Ajax and Porto have went on to stay relevant in European competitions, while we are the whipping boys to Hungarian clubs!
    On a regular basis now.

Keep in mind, this * was one of the financial guys 1992-94 under THAT old regime.
He should NEVER have been let back in to the club in 2003, NEVER!

    He's our Craig Whyte.

Though that's probably harsh on Whyte, he inherited a mess from Minty Moonbeams so the only realistic option was administration.

Lawwell on the other hand has presided over the biggest capitulation in the history of Scottish football.

The biggest and richest club in the country, completely stripped of its assets - Armstrong, Dembele, Frinpong, Tierney, Rodgers for something in the region of 72 million and yet replaced with utter * like Lennon, Kenny, Laxalt, Klimala, Duffy.

23 points behind a club the third of our size

100 million turnover cut in half and cash in the bank now non-existent as we miss out on CL football for the 4th consecutive season.

Needing a new manager, scouting set-up, sport science department, DOF, analytical team, and at least 10 new players going into the new season.

This complete rebuild is incomparable to any other in our history.

Starting from scratch as a newco would probably be more straightforward.

This * has suddenly become Lord Lucan. Surprise surprise. A * cretin, parasite, tight arsed *, The man who wanted "the old firm". The man who did not have the balls to stand up for our club and let the scum cheat all these years. A * that has bled the club dry and lined his own pockets. An interfering; arrogant, narrow minded greedy self centred *. This fat multi chinned * is to blame for the mess that we are in.

Madness from Brown and as much as we all do love the guy, he needs dug up for those sort of comments.

It's one thing to pay lipservice to your boss, the guy who gave you a big fat contract (deservedly), but it is a whole other thing to suggest * statues of the *.

If he remains in any capacity, he will not let McKay run it his way.
May as well rip up the renewal forms now.

I dare say though, these rumours won't be made official (if they are true) till long after that st money is in the bank account.

Hear the reason for no update is due to this * refusing to top up the club's gift gaff pay as you go account and changing the WiFi password.

I want him gone mate he has poisoned the well and left us in a * of a state, if he stays he is always going to be there in the background trying to influence things as you say. We need a clean break and a massive fresh start, it’s a hard enough rebuild without this parasite hanging about.

    100%

I think it's actually a very good thing for Celtic if we can see the back of lawwell, total clear out of the Lennon, Kennedy, Strachan era and saying goodbye to brown (politely).
It would be as much of a clean slate as we can possibly get and anything short of it is just keeping too much of what's became bad at Celtic lately.

No surprise if he wants to stay on. He won't get his money any easier than he has at Celtic. That is the main reason he didn't leave for Arsenal in my opinion.

As tempting a narrative this is, and as big a mess the club’s strategy on multiple fronts has turned into this season- football financially has moved on aeons since Seville. The EPL TV deal that went into effect the season after we went to the L16 and lost very narrowly to the eventually winners was the last nail in the coffin for Celtic being able to compete (ie have a chance of actually winning) at the business end of tournaments, in MON we had a team as good as a top 4 English team and could compete financially with English teams in Europe although not the biggest ones, now we are transparently outmuscled by relegation bait so another strategy was and still is definitely required. Happy to see the back of PL.

For sure, in regards to the epl we simply can not compete, at all.

But clubs like Ajax level we should be able to.

It's something I've not looked in to in the last year, but it wasn't that long ago that a Celtic team led by Rodgers was breaking 104million turnover and (if I'm remembering correctly) clubs like Ajax were barely much more than that (115ish). Considering the Netherlands have a much better tv deal than us as well.

We should be able to compete with clubs from Holland, Portugal, Scandinavia, Austria, Belgium, but we are fast becoming laughed at by these clubs as well and find ourselves struggling against even smaller clubs/leagues.

TV deal in Scotland is chronic for sure, we need to (and missed this again) break away from thinking we need sky to offer us a deal.
Should have chased a SPFL TV deal, or chapped the door of Amazon and been a fore runner in online streaming of a full football league.

We've had a free run at the Champions League for 10 years.

When was the last time we played against a team with more money in the qualifiers? How often did we play a team with even 25% our budget?

His legacy is turning Celtic into European minnows when we should've been Champions League regulars. 10 years of qualification was extremely possible - if you think that sounds unreasonable you've been completely gaslit by Lawwell.

If we qualified for the Champions League 10 years in a row we'd have enough cash to at least compete with some English teams and we would be making a dent in the competitions.

It's a scandal that his record is looked upon with any favour. He's held this club back in a massive way, dragging us down to his level of competence.

Lawwell deserves no credit. Any success we’ve had during his tenure was down to managers that he didn’t appoint; Strachan and Rodgers.

His dinosaur tactics and biscuit tin mentality was the main reason that Rodgers left; he couldn’t take us further when Lawwell was holding the purse strings and managing negotiations.

    * him.
