    I read your posts.
Izzy shouldn't be your 3rd or 4th choice and there was no attempt to replace Lustig. If you don't get your 1st choices then have decent back up plans. Nobody should ever defend the recruitment for the defence by Rodgers and Congerton it was a * shambles. I can't remember 1 good one they signed.

To be fair, Izzy in his last season done a far better job for us than the fullbacks this season.

We could have been doing with more guys that had been there and done it this year.

I can recall players like castagne etc - the board did not want to break the mould and move the club into a new level - these type of players would have helped secure the 10.

Instead the board went and signed players such as shved etc or as you say 3rd or 4th list position players

ideally we should have had someone like toney in last summer to phase eddie out this summer, and we * about all summer re: big forster - he is going, he isn't etc , he is , he isn't - * me wasted opportunities last summer to get a decent keeper in. one thing we have never done is get new players etc in asap to help players bond before important European games. - you only need to look at the new incoming manager fiasco fs.

I totally blame the board, bad recruitment and coaches / manager happy to be their puppets.

Congerton identified players that were too expensive for us. He was hopeless. He couldn't work in the market we are in. Castagne was one of them

he went and got eddie and moussa, got mc ginn too until lawwell poked his nose in.

I think most people would struggle in the market that lawwell wants and desires. he expects every player to be bought for peanuts and sold and 3/4 times the amount paid for them.

the fact of the matter is if the board supported the coaches and managers im sure the 10 in a year would have been no issues.

no one really knows what goes on between lawwell and recruitment, but we all have a fair idea.

considering some of the money wasted it is scary - barkas, ajeti, polish paddy etc - combine them 3 transfers and you would be able to get a player who could have made an impact.

Perhaps that is why howe is holding off, he knows coming to celtic isn't like the gravy train of the premier league - everything is toned down in terms of signings and you need to be really astute with investments or it can backfire massively with the board making final calls.

Pretty sure it was reported that we matched Aston Villa's bid just after they got their one accepted, this all after us * about over a few hundred thousand.

Congerton joined after Moussa signed, the club had also been in talks with him since the previous transfer window.

heard he met with Rodgers a few times and was very very keen on the move.
was also told Rodgers was told to bring in hayes - he turned ok actually - but it shows the type of player and money the board wanted to pay.

im not say we should ha go against the grain and throw money left right and centre
Brendan and lee im sure had been in discussions before he was 'offered' the role.

no matter who comes into the club recruitment wise, until the club look at upgrading the type of player we go for we will take years to get to fully dominating.

Im sure we all agree any good team needs a really good spine - at the minute our team spine is gonzo .. goalkeeper, centre halves, centre mids and 2 x forwards. Any manager coming in is taking on a serious project, especially the added pressure to get into Europe group stages this season.

The 11th and 12th hour transfer pandering in the last 3 European season has cost us so much, especially before important qualifying games. The club continually fail to prepare for the start of the season - more than often signings are long term 'pet projects'. We need players who can hit the ground running, with the euros around the corner surely it makes sense to assemble a new manager / coach with scouts / scouting networks to start ear marking players that can help springboard the club back to accepted levels of play.

My fear exactly, cant see any club touching either because of toxic attitude, suspect we will be saddled with both, Jesus wept.

Got 90 minutes at weekend, seems to be doing reasonably well over there, hopefully they will give us an offer and we can all rejoice

And yet he still did better than him, he came in when he was needed, put in some decent performances and helped us get a Treble over the line as part of a defence not leaking goals.
