Great servant to the club. It's been a sad way to end it with no fans but I think it's good for all concerned that Brown goes out and keeps playing. He's a fit guy and could easily play until he's 40 but just not at the level expected at Celtic. I wish him well and will always remember the good times he brought our club.

He’s been kicked and punched off the monkeys in the last year and hasn’t dished out any revenge.

Indicative of the whole team. No fight whatsoever.

Brown of 3,4,5 years ago wouldn’t have tolerated it. That’s how you know he’s done.

Will do well for the sheep and no doubt try like a * against us but he's well passed the standard we require. An absolute shadow of his former self out there.

Aye after Rodgers came in and got rid of his mates and had a sit down with him.

The fact that is that his fitness has been rapidly deteriorating since Lennon came back in and put beers and chips back on the menu.

Culminating in him standing there like a statue watching huns even older than himself jog past him and humiliate us in the most anticipated season in living memory.

It was precisely the same * mentality which nearly blew the chance of history (quadruple treble) against a Chamoionship side back in December. Soro had been unreal when he came into the team, then dropped for the final.

The Huns didn't win the league this season. They never had to.

    So the answer is yes.
Again, he is far from being the biggest problem we have.
He stands tall every week & lets himself be put in the firing line while trying to stem the tide.

I share your frustration mate, but ultimately it's on the manager who picks him.

Brown should have been stood down in 2018/2019 at the end of the Treble Treble season, or at least, offered a coaching-playing role with more limited game time. He'd still have been a presence in the dressing room, but his place really should have gone to John McGinn.

I can't fault him though, he's trying his best, it's just no longer good enough. That's on the club - management, CEO etc. not Brown imo.

    Agreed.

Top managers pick teams solely based on merit; weak ones pick teams based on some faint sense of duty.

Lennon and Kennedy fall into the latter category.

Brown is just that guy that every manager will keep trying to pick. He is a managers dream and most will think that if he's dropped off the pace that he still brings something to a game. A huge influence on those around him and a leader. If Howe was here and Brown still under contract I've no doubt Howe would try to play him. So it's prob for the best that circumstances have led to him moving on.

Rodgers left Brown out of the team for several consecutive games in 2018/2019.

It coincided with our best run that season. Some very dominant and convincing games (6-0 v St Johnstone, 5-0 v Clarke's ultra defensive Killie, strong victory v Leipzig in the EL)

He was never going to be dropped completely but it did show we could play just as well without him.

Our club captain's complete lack of fitness is absolutely one of the biggest problems this season.

If we had a captain who embodied the principles of fitness, diet, and proper training, then that would rub off on the team, and we'd be much less likely to see other teammates turning up unfit or putting in half arsed performances in matches.

Brown never made the effort this season. In fact, when players criticised the manager for not training them properly Brown came out and supported his mate.

That lack of professionalism has been one of the major factors in our undoing this season and Brooney is every bit as responsible as Lennon in that regard.

As much as I love the guy, he should have honestly been phased out during Rodgers second season when he was injured.

I think we had a midfield of Mcgregor, Rogic and Christie, and it was the best our midfield had looked in years, Brown was still a good player at this time but we should have started to ease him out then.

    I think you're being harsh.

Apart from the dopey comments about Lawwell deserving a statue, and the generic "we're all behind the gaffer", there's been nothing yo suggest he's been anything other than an outstanding professional. I seem to recall him helping Soro out when he first got into the team, giving him encouragement and working with him at Lennoxtown - even though it must have hurt him that Soro was taking his place.

As regards his fitness, yes he has struggled this year and he should have been nowhere near the team, or been allowed to use important games to get his fitness back. But that's on Lennon.

Brown didn't come back overweight like Griffiths, he came back struggling because at his age, the lockdown hit him hardest than all the others. As I said, he shouldn't have been a first team regular anyway, so again, that's on Lawwell for * up the McGinn transfer, and Lennon for insisting on playing Brown no matter what.

That was Rodgers' third season. Christie was on loan to the Sheep during Rodgers' second season.

But you're right. The Treble Treble should have been his swansong with an appearance from the bench.

Brown is in the team for his off field attributes more than his on field performances. Unfortunately that's just not what we require. Love the guy but we prob got lucky that he was forced to make a decision on his future as I think any incoming manager would fall in to the same trap of playing him.
