End of an era & a long long time until it’s equalled, if ever.

I don’t believe it’s on him to step up and say he can’t do it anymore. The margins at top level football are tiny, and an athlete convincing themselves they’ve still go it until it’s clear they no longer do is probably the most consistent story in sport.

The manager and back room staff though? Well it’s literally their job. Good ones spot it before the decline sets in, average ones spot it once the decline is fairly noticeable, * ones ignore the decline a the club suffers the consequences.

Sorry but I’m having it. He wants to be the leader then he needs to make the big decisions where he can. He should’ve removed himself from selection a long time ago for the good of the team, the club and the fans, and I’ll judge him for not doing it.

Shrugging your shoulders and saying it’s up to the manager is just a cop out.

It’s pure selfishness on his part. He wanted to play the last part of his career and he’s done that to the detriment of the squad. He should be rightly judged for it.

The fact he is a top level competitive sportsman will drive his belief in himself. He will never walk away from a challenge.

Wouldn’t surprise me upper management kept him on just so he could be used as a scapegoat for their incompetence.

Which is fine, but it’s a flaw he should get stick for, but people seem determined to give him a by.

It’s like excusing someone for being a Tory for being rich. Of course you expect them to vote Tory but that doesn’t make it okay.

Just imagine the difference this season if Brown proper stepped up in any capacity.

He could’ve pushed to get his pal Lennon removed when the squad clearly lost faith in him.

He could’ve at least removed himself from selection and we might’ve put up a fight or even got the Scottish cup.

Instead he shirked his responsibility as a leader and looked after his own interest, and everyone just excuses it.

Real leaders look after the interest of the team ahead of their own interest.

Yeah you see it in a lot of sports. Footballers have the luxury of dropping down a level but it’s really up to the management to make that call.

I mean, I doesn’t take a ‘football man’ to know that you shouldn’t build the team around a 35 midfielder who has made a career out of his physical attributes mainly, in a league known for its physicality and tempo.

It’s all hindsight now, but he should’ve been away at the beginning of last season. The idea of him still playing 50/60 games a season is just mental given the type of player he is. And let’s not forget - it was apparently entirely up to him wether or not he wanted to stay for another season :giggle1:

He's nearly 36 and been finished for 18 months, not his problem that he has been played by two inept * managers in that time, he's not gonna let his team down nor is he gonna defy the managers orders.

An outstanding player who will likely not be replaced but his time was up when Rodgers left. Criminal how Soro hasn't been first choice this season.

It sounds harsh but I absolutely agree here.
Brown must know he's finished, he can't be that delusional. Using his stature to cling on to his position in the first eleven at the detriment of the team is selfish. He's clearly not wanted to harm the club, but his ego has allowed that to happen. Not entirely his fault obviously, the gutless managers haven't helped. But it doesn't sit right with me that Brown watched Soro warm his * on the bench all season when he clearly should have been playing.

It is up to the manager though, I mean that’s quite literally their job. The captain is a leadership role on the pitch, but ultimately it’s the managers job to pick the team. Making yourself available under any circumstances is probably the most Scott Brown thing in the world.

You obviously don’t understand what it takes as a person to reach the heights he has. That’s no criticism of you mate, just an observation.

Thank * we never have to see him line up against them again.. and what a crying shame it is that that’s all I can say to commemorate the end of an era. That’s on Neil and John.

Correct. His legs had gone so he should’ve had that conversation and retired if necessary.

Ignoring the clear problems at management level and continuing to play when you know you are a detriment to the team (or worse, not even realising you’re a detriment) is dereliction of duty for a leader.

I understand why he kept playing, but I don’t understand why people refuse to judge him for it.

Every man and his dog can see Brown is finished and yet he get game time.

What a way to end it all eh! Aberdeen will be a * easy game if he starts next season.

That is the Scott Brown way. It’s also what people will miss, regret & blame them when players don’t show the same commitment.
