Only way Lennon would be appointed as manager at a club ever again is if the owner hated the fans

I rekon that's why he quit because this was on the horizon.

Sheffield Uniteds owners are obviously keen that club suffer successive relegations if they want Lennon.

 

FORMER Celtic manager Neil Lennon believes that the success of his second spell in charge has been forgotten.

Speaking to the BBC, Lennon admitted that the poor run of form that led to him leaving the club overshadows what had been a successful stint at the club.




Lennon completed the treble after coming back to the club in 2019 when Brendan Rodgers left for Leicester City, and retained all three trophies in the 2019/20 season.

But, Rangers ran away with the Scottish Premiership title this year and had the league wrapped up by March 7.


Steven Gerrard’s side haven’t been beaten by Celtic since late 2019 in the League Cup final.

When asked if he thought the success of his second spell had been forgotten, he said: “Yes. Yes. Listen this is the modern age when everyone wants success yesterday.

"They look for the next thing after you have won a trophy so you don't get time to enjoy it or dwell on it.

But five trophies in 18 months was a pretty good return.

“The last six months were pretty difficult on and off the field. Am I hurt? No. I'm a big boy and I understand that's sometimes part of the job.

"I went in on my own and herded the staff and herded a group of players. That was a huge challenge and one that I embraced and enjoyed immensely."

Eddie Howe has been widely touted as the man who will succeed Lennon in the Parkhead dugout.


When Lennon was asked what type of club the former Bournemouth manager could expect to inherit, he replied: "A club in transition. I have gone. Peter Lawwell the chief executive has gone.

"He was there for 17 years and was a huge presence around the club in a positive way.


Scott Brown, one of the most successful captains in the history of the club is off to Aberdeen next year and Nick Hammond left this week so there will be a new head of recruitment.


"Whoever goes in will have a blank canvas but the magnitude of the club and the expectations of the supporters mean you have to hit the ground running as soon as you can.

But whoever goes in it's a great challenge for them and a very exciting period for them as well."

 

Lennon's record first time round was 5 trophies out of 14 at a period when our major rivals went out of existence.

That's distinctly mediocre, and that's putting it kindly.

He wasn't qualified for the job first time round and he most certainly wasn't qualified second time round. His European humiliations far outweigh the occasional upset.

Of the trophies he won second time - the first had already been handed to him on a plate, the narrow cup win v Hearts was dreadful, the backs to the wall league cup win v Huns was even worse and he needed pens to beat a championship mob who are making an * of it to lower opposition themselves. The only convincing trophy was last season's league, and even then, the Klan completely capitulated after Christmas.

He's been very very lucky to have gained what he has out of Celtic.

Hopefully we can get some professionalism back now with Howe and Lennon will fade into obscurity like a bad memory.

No one is forgetting the treble that was achieved under his watch, we all know what it meant, it meant 9 in a row and the chance to go for the ten...that he *!

Trying to call the fans short sighted and fickle, entitled almost, with these comments.

Doing * all to help repair his damaged reputation.

 

Apparently we demand success yesterday at this club.

Well yesterday we were on 9 titles Neil. Now we’re back to 0. Where is the * success?

You’d think he’d keep his fat heid down... have a break from it and enjoy the money he’s been fleecing the club for the last season and a half.

(I suppose he can’t ‘jet off’ to a Caribbean beach)

Disgraceful comments on here. Neil Lennon is a Celtic legend and deserves more respect from his own on this forum. Losing 10 is hugely disappointing but this thread is embarrassing for Celtic supporters. Shameful comments.

 

His first 2 trophies in his second spell you’d think he won them on his own the way he speaks. He came in to a team who had just won two trebles in a row and a league cup already. We were in a position where anyone could have came in and won the league. Played crap in the run in aswell.

 

I hate being preached to that someone is a legend and he must be liked, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don’t like him and see him as a bully but i accept others will think differently.
