Lurching from one egotistical dickstick with no tactical nous... to another egotistical dickstick with no tactical nous...

    That's Roy Keane replacing Lennon.

His Sunderland squad (that he built basically from scratch) collectively cheered and "reportedly" danced when they were given the news he was sacked.

Funny as he can be, and admirable as his strict disciplinarian methods might be... he doesn't inspire. He doesn't inspire loyalty, doesn't inspire tenacity, he only inspires fear, and after the fear subsides, resentment.

If DD is even considering this he needs * euthanized

Isn't Wilder against the DOF route? If that's the case I don't want him dragging us down. We need a team to build for the future. All his big money signings bar possibly Ramsdale have flopped.

Haha, don't worry about that. I'm not easily offended. As an English man who spent around 7 years living in Scotland, including accidentally ending up on a train to London with the Tartan army, the day before Scotland played at Wembley. Obviously my accent spotted before we pulled out of Waverly. I've also been to watch quite a bit of Scottish football, I've been to: Park head, Ibrox, Hampden, Tannadice (numerous times, as I adopted the Arabs as my Scottish team), Pittodrie, Tynecastle, Easter Road, Dens and a few trips watch Livi. Safe to say I've heard it all in that time. I've spent a fair bit of time in Glasgow for work too, and it remains one of my favourite cities.

I can understand the concerns over whether Wilder could step up to that level, but this season certainly needs contextualising. I think some clubs have struggled with the lack of fans more than others, the drop of of yourselves and Liverpool being the obvious examples. In addition injuries have been absolutely horrific for us this season, last week we were missing 7 centre backs!

I'd be intrigued to see whether Wider is a serious contender and whether he'd be interested in being a head coach at a big club. He's always loved the underdog mentality, he thrives of it. So I actually think he'd enjoy Europe. The domestic pressure is something very different though.

Europe wise I'd certainly agree with the comparisons between Sheffield United in the Premier league and Celtic in Europe. The uncompetitive budget and the additional issues attracting talent, in our case facilities that are absolutely laughably * and in yours the reputation of the domestic game.

Attitude wise I think he'd fit in well in Glasgow. He's straight talking to the point of upsetting a few, but is generally good humoured and likes to take the *.

I'm not Wilder's agent or completely blinkered. He's undoubtedly wasted some money and this season has been a car crash (literally at times). But as a coach his tactics have been very good and he's developed a number of league one players into Premier league ones. He's famed for the overlapping centre back thing, but that was just a reaction to league one teams camping in their own half and it's proven successful.

Yeah Lennon keeps on being linked, which seem to be even less popular that Wilder on here. I can't say I'm a big fan, but I'm sure he'd at least instill passion in the team. Sheffield United fans have pretty odd expectations, we'll forgive a complete lack of talent or ability, but pull out of a challenge and you're done.

I'm just not convinced there's much managerial talent in British football at the moment. I can't imagine either club's fans being happy at any appointment to be honest.

Tbf @Blade in peace makes a good point about Wilder, he was quite rightly raved about after Northampton and then getting Sheffield flying high last season. The drop off this season and some of the poor signings are obviously a worry but they were already punching well above their weight. It would be a risky appointment, but Roy Keane would be an even bigger risk.

I remember Keane coming to paradise to pull on the hoops to satisfy his ego , what a disaster that was , please don’t make the same mistake by putting him in a managerial position , there is a reason why his managerial career has never taken off .

If Keane becomes our manager we'd be as well chucking it. Shouldn't even be a thought for the job let alone a serious contender.

It's time Desmond stopped appointing guys because of their backgrounds or because he thinks they "get it"

Give us a * manager with the right and proper credentials for the job as a modern day football manager ffs.

If he can convince Oli Burke to come back up the road with him, then I’m sold.

The problem is that that costs money. Employing your mate is cheap.

    Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

Yep. The general feeling of how we approached out last appointment stinks of walking into the pub and asking a mate if he wants a job, even though he has little or now experience.

I hate this mentality the we/the club have (can tell you are not being serious here bud).

Surely the fans have proven to the guys in the top seats that if they back the squad and a manager, the fans will back the club even more so.

Under Deila we had turnover of £52million, we backed the squad with Rodgers and some spending, turnover became £102million.
£50million increase, just by the club showing some * ambition for once.
Sure around £20-25million of that can be accredited to CL participation, but if we subtract the difference from EL to CL money that season, the fans still managed to back the club in a big way. We then went on an invincible run with largely similar players to that of the last manager and things were good for awhile.

They appoint Keane, Wilder, Ross, Kennedy, they are literally risking and sacraficing potentially £50million for the sake of a cheap option in the immediate.

Loved Roy Keane as a player and he's brilliant entertainment as a pundit but I don't want him as manager.
It is a distinct possibility though some im trying to find the silver linings.

He demands perfection of himself so will have thought through his managerial decisions many times to realise where he * up in his man management, and wont alienate players this time round. Also age will have calmed him down a bit.
On the flip side he will still demand application and attitude and I'm convinced the team would not have performed as badly this season if he had have been here.
He is very defensive of Solkjaer so clearly has a gd relationship - could this be gd for loans / signings from utd as well as our already existing good relationship with man City.
Keane would be a DD appointment so Desmond will very much want him to succeed. This along with the potential direct route into the following seasons champions league may convince DD to splash the cash more than ever before.

But as I said, I'd rather we went with a manager with tactical knowledge supported by a DoF.

BTW knowing Keanes ego he could end up demanding mega bucks for wages. Here's hoping because it would probably put us off

I love Keane as an Irish player and now pundit but he has shown absolutely nothing in management for what we need now and would only be a matter of time before things exploded with certain players etc
