Dermot Desmond should be chased if Roy Keane is even considered.. I'm actually stunned he is even being discussed..

Let's be realistic here, this is just being driven by media speculation. Again, whilst I love watching Keane as a pundit he has nothing under his belt to suggest he will be a good fit. Given that and he wouldnt help drive the season ticket sales he will simply not get a look in.

What annoys me most is with the exception of Howe, maresca and benitez our "shortlist" is the same year in year out. Christ even Lambert had to rule himself out as if we had all been clamouring waiting for the announcement.

The world is a big big place full of talent. We don't have to revise the same old list of McCarthy, Lambert, could, Keane, O'Neil, Strachan, coyle, Larsson etc.

Literally over the last few days alone I thought of 3 managers that are more than likely attainable with great pedigree. Ranieri, hididnk and even van gaal.

Ranieri is earning less at sampdoria than we were paying Rodgers and the other two are unemployed.

Might not even necessarily have to be one of these three but surely we are looking past the standard shortlist that does the rounds everytime we need a manager?

Am still campaigning for Ranieri mind :treble:

I absolutely agree with your main point about seemingly limiting ourselves to the standard shortlist. I don't agree about Ranieri - he will be 70 this year and has barely lasted a season at any club since leaving Leicester. IMO - we need someone who will be around for at least 2 years - there is a * of a clear out required at this club and I want someone who will stay long enough to rebuild the team and hopefully establish a lasting ethos.

What Ranieri did at Leicester was incredible. But I don’t particularly rate him as a manager.

    Wouldn’t go near him.

We need an awkwardly restrictive mix of progressive, forward thinking modern young manager who's also got experience and given reign along with a solid DoF to build a new era and foundation at the club.

That should in theory rule oit literally every single * constantly banded about when we are hiring. Sadly, the ambition of the board won't meet up to the task at hand so will mostly end up with an option for the now and focus on short term only.

Quite a few folk on here have suggested the manager at Slavia. Hope someone at the club is keeping an eye on the Huns games v them, and on other Europa ties as well.

There are probably young, progressive but experienced guys all over Europe who could come here and do well.

Time for the club to open its eyes for a change.

Whilst the best fit for Celtic would clearly be a forward thinking young manager with a modern approach to football, that would also require the board to make big investments in things like backroom staff, training facilities, youth academy etc. Things that the board have shown repeatedly that they have no interest in improving.

In fact the board are so incompetent, even if they did try and invest in these facilities, there's every chance just it would go the same way as their high-tech all-weather hybrid pitch. A massive waste of money and worse than what we had in the first place.

For those reasons I think we should just be aiming for a manager with a good amount of experience, the ability to organise a team properly, and who doesn't take any pish. IMO if Sean Dyche is really interested in the job then he should be the guy we're going after. Not the most glamorous of names, but a good manager who is highly underrated by some, and who won't put up with any * from the SFA, media etc.

That recent interview with desmond he made it clear he will do what he likes and to * with what anyone else thinks.I like keane and wouldn't be overjoyed but wouldn't be totally adverse to him getting the job either ,with the list potential candidates and suggestions I'm seeing there maybe only 2 or 3 people I'd rather have .there's bound to better options!I don't care if he hurts the players feelings if they aren't doing the basics right, * them! it was the failure to do the basics that screwed us this season

That's fair enough. Not everyone has to buy into ranieri granted but who would you prefer? Not just prefer but a realistic preference?

In someone like Ranieri you have experience in abundance, tasted his fair share of success, isn't our typical appointment and again is a realistic target.

Sometimes we are a hard support to please. We keep saying no not him, no chance would I take him etc.

But again who would we be happy with - that's a realistic possibility

I cannot understand all this nonsense that has crept into the game. We need a a young forward thinking manager. Football hasn't changed. It is still 11 v 11. You need the right players before you can implement any new system. Look at the average age of the current top 8 teams in the EPL. It is well into the 50s. Tuchel & Rodgers in their late 40's. You need the players to play any system you want to introduce. The saying is horse for courses still applies. You adapt, tweak, etc to the task in hand.

Ranieri, Hiddink or van Gaal would seriously be the best possible appointments we could make.

All those coaches are far more adaptive and forward thinking then dinosaurs like Lennon who thinks it's 2001 still and makes no effort to do even the most basic analysis on the game.

Coaching a team of players isn't as one dimensional as it perhaps was even back when Lennon first came into job for his first stint.

Every year the game develops and changes, those who do not change with it get left behind.

Neil Lennon couldn't get the players to play for him. That's down to him personally and he failed

Just listened to Snodgrass talking about Maresca on the Go football radio show from Tuesday. Talked unbelievably of him, has swayed me over to him a bit. Will try link it in.

Good man. Snoddy speaks for about 10 mins if anyone wants to download it. Can’t mind but I’m sure it was 20 odd mins in.
