Just slowly catching up on the Bitton incident after reading the Celtic statement.
Shocking, and not the first time.

I know when he first came in there was some folk playing the mock outrage at his nationality and the countries background, but * me abusing his missus and the likes? Get a grip, stupid * kids!

On a side - it is these * that act like this that make it seem like legit fans with legit gripes about the club are just acting out, because it sort of stereotpyical lines up with these little twerps daft ability to try and get a rise.
Find the wee * and through any law they can at them regarding online abuse.

On a secondary side note, he's been playing CB for a few years now and I think it should be fairly accepted that he is a very competent and accepted CB that should be used in a positive 4 choice CB, with Ajer and Julien plus another (such as Benkovic on a perm), he is a very good ball playing player and happy to have him as a solid versatile player for us. His approach to the game looks "easy" but he reads a game very very well and knows how to do his role.

Wasn't called Nirlo for nothing :celt_2:

If you don't think he has all those attributes I listed then you don't know enough about individual players qualities to make judgment. How was it an easy header? There was a hun directly in front of him which deflected for a corner that wasn't given, where the * was Ajer at set pieces? How many headers did he get on the end of in the opposition box who's a few inches taller than Bitton? Too many in our support have an agenda against the guy due to a post he made years ago.

Disagree, under a decent manager & setup he'd flourish again, he was playing very well in MF during the Invincible season, was tremendous at home to Man City & plenty others, injury then * him & since then he's only been used as a CB, time to get him back in the middle.

Excellent reader of the game from MF, that's another attribute I meant to mention, one of his strongest actually.

He's slow on and off the ball..

Was getting breezed past in midfield by diddies. Went centre back and looks ok against * but anybody half decent and he's exposed..

    He's a diddy..

Already had the slow debate with others, don't need to be a buzz bomb in the middle of the park to be effective, he's good in possession both in his composure & passing, also reads the game very well which makes up for a lack of pace. Once made it to a UEFA Cup Final with one of our slowest MFs ever in Lenny which he made up for in anticipation, passing & his reading of the game (I know times have changed since then)

Anyway, you believe what you believe about Bitton & I'll believe what I believe, let's see what the new manager decides to do with him next season.

Mistiming his jump is because he’s not a CB? Do you not have to jump in midfield nah? As a tall player do you not think he’s important in each box regardless of position nah?

No doubt people abusing him will be the same ones who personally abuse Lennon too.

Doubt Ajer has had any abuse, he should have been closer to Bitton. They parted like the Red Sea.

I agree he should have done better but he wouldn't have been in that position in the first place at that precise moment from open play had he been playing MF instead of DF. I think he's a decent aerial presence in both boxes tbh, think he's relatively strong in the air, not in the same way players like Jullien & Boyata are/were, but still competent enough, he was unlucky with a header against the huns last weekend that was deflected for what should have been a corner, also scored a number of headers under Ronny, if I'd to bet between Bitton or Ajer to score a header from a set piece my money would be on Bitton all day.

He's playing in a position that isn't even his natural position, if you were a real scout you'd recognize & acknowledge that fact when passing such judgment, the fact you haven't even mentioned that means you're talking out your hole. Scout my *.

In the middle I think he fell victim, as a lot of deep sitting players do, of playing alongside Brown.
Bitton with Turnbull and Mcgregor either side in a midfield 3 in "tougher" games is a fair shout in my eyes.
The alternative is Soro, but they are NOT the same style of player and shoudlnt be directly swapped out in this hypothetical midfield 3.

Is there a place for Bitton & Soro in MF together going forward next season under a new manager? Would give the defence some protection in Europe, both good in possession, probably too defensive for the domestic game although for me both can get the ball forward a lot & be positive in possession, I don't regard them as negative players in possession like Brown who 9/10 passes sideways & backwards.

I was watching the latest Huddle Breakdown podcast & the guy said that Brown had passed directly to a striker 14 times all season, whereas Soro did it 9 times in a single game.

Absolutely shocking the abuse he has received. However if (as the statement says) these people are faceless and nameless, how do the board know they were Celtic fans?

Also where was the statement when huns were abusing our players?

There is no defending any kind of racial/sectarian abuse but the club are being very * selective in what they highlight these days.

Recently, we seem to have solved our problem of a lack of mobility in the middle of the park by removing a declining Brown and playing Soro. Putting Bitton in that DM position would pretty much put us right back to where we were, even though he's not suffering the same decline as Brown, however given it's been ages since Bitton played in midfield, there's no guarantee he's seamlessly slot back into that position. He was good in the Man City home game, but that was more than 4 years, 3 months ago now.

There's no way Bitton at 29 would be as immobile in MF as a 34/35 year old Brown the last two seasons, plus I rate Bitton as a better player than Brown in possession, better passer & decision maker imo, looks to go forward at every opportunity, whereas Brown tends to take the easy sideways/backwards pass more often. All I'm saying is we shouldn't be looking to offload him in the Summer & I'd like to see what a new manager wants to do with him.

Yep I acknowleged he isn't on the same downward slope as Brown, but he's still not what you'd describe as dynamic or mobile. I don't think it's true to say he looks to go forward at every opportunity either. I wouldn't offload him either, he's a useful squad player.
