Outside of Ferguson what did they achieve?
And where are those managers now?

How do you know til you've given them a chance. Guys like Jack Ross and Alex Neil could turn out to be good managers if given the chance at a top club. They've both had relative success at smaller clubs. Guys like Benitez had limited success at a few smaller clubs before getting his chance at Valencia. All top managers have to have been given their chance at a big club at some point to prove themselves. It's the same in England - why are Solskjaer and Arteta given a chance but Eddie Howe and Graham Potter aren't. We seem to have a real problem giving our own good young managers a chance to prove themselves but we're clamouring to give similar young relatively unproven foreign managers a chance.

None of them were given a chance at a bigger club and there's only so much you can do with smaller clubs. Even Klopp had a relatively mediocre record before getting his chance at Dortmund - had been at Mainz for 7 years, got them promoted then relegated then quit when he couldn't get them back up again. I'm saying you can't be sure how good a young manager is until he's given a chance and we do have some young managers who deserve a chance on their records with smaller clubs.

    He could do both though.

Yet none of those managers have went and proved the big clubs wrong by being successful elsewhere.

Jack Ross failed at Sunderland. Alex Neil is what he is, a good Championship manager.

Klopp is the best manager on the planet. He made the Dortmund and Liverpool jobs what they are because of his ability, he didn’t walk into title winning, CL competing ready teams.

He is the best manager on the planet but that wasn't obvious until he got the chance to prove it. Ross didn't fail at Sunderland he got them to the play offs and they're not any better since he left and he's done well at St Mirren and Hibs so far. Alex Neil could be anything if given the chance he could be great or a flop (just like all the foreign managers who've flopped in the UK).

I don't think a mangers ability is determined by his nationality but by their ability. There's been some excellent British managers throughout the years such as Big Jock, Ferguson, Shankly etc. but there's also been a few duds. We recently have had an influx of some great foreign managers such as Mourinho, Wenger, Klopp etc. while others have not been such a success. I would love an exciting forward thinking manager such as Hassenhutt or Daniel Farke to come in and rescue our club as that is what we desperately need at the moment.

He did fail. Just because someone after him failed as well doesn’t mean he didn’t. Sunderland should be absolutely romping that league.

If Neil is so good why aren’t even small EPL clubs taking a chance on him then never mind the big ones?

I’ll ask again, what have these Scottish managers outside of Ferguson done to be given an opportunity at one of the big clubs?

Jack Ross and Alex Neil? * *.

They have to earn their shot at a big club. Nothing they have done is anywhere near impressive enough to be considered for the Celtic job. If Jack Ross takes Hibs to 2nd place, wins a cup, shows up well against us and the huns etc. Then maybe he’ll be worth a shout.

Why the * would you limit yourself to handful of underwhelming choices, when there's an entire continent out there to explore.

As much as most of the foreign guys being quoted. They've got a good record with smaller clubs. It's not as though foreign managers haven't failed - only Deila, Caixinha, Le Guen, Emery, Silva, Solskjaer, Arteta is struggling and that's just off the top of my head. Even Guardiola hasn't set the heather alight at Bayern or Man City - just done the least expected given the resources. There seems to be this mystique about foreign coaches and I just don't buy it.

You’re right. This is a point that was raised in the soccernomics book, since the inception of the premier league and the initial genius and innovation of Wenger there has been a lot of stock placed in Southern/Western European coaches often to the detriment of British coaches with figures just as impressive as. I think the people constantly banging on about Martínez as if he’d be some saviour are mad. The guy done well in his first season at Everton but it went pear shaped very quickly and he absolutely won the lottery getting the Belgium gig, in which you could say he underachieved at the World Cup too given the squad of players he had and the stage of their careers they were at. However I equally don’t rate Eddie Howe.

    Pochettino
    Sarri
    Setein
    Valverde
    Spaletti
    Blanc
    Silva
    Jardim

Are all out of work just now.

I'm not saying for a second anyone of them would come but there is some top quality available and the names we are linked with are Ross, Neil, Strachan, O'Neill, Lambert and Kennedy which is utterly depressing

Any self respecting young forward thinking managers wont come near us . Managers like that ( older ones aswell ) will want to run all the football aspects at the club ,there own backroom team there signings etc .
They will not get that with this board in charge

If British coaches are just as good as their foreign counterparts why aren’t they just as successful? Why aren’t Liverpool or City going and getting Alex Neil or Jack Ross for a 20th of the price they’re paying Klopp or Pep?

Forget the board for a moment and have a think about where we play our domestic football. Hence why none of the big names will ever come here. Ok with the exception of BR who had feelings for the club, no matter how it finished up. Appointing a manager for Celtic is no easy task, our league is poor, they will get very little time to have us winning everything again or fans (including many on here) will be going ballistic for change and they know it. I’m not advocating keeping NL all I’m trying to do is point out it’s not that easy a task to get a decent manager.
