McCourt Likely To Get NI Re-call

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Deano-JVOH, Jul 8, 2008.

  1. got to disagree. Dean Shields is a very decent player - showed up really well against us and them in the run in. Not good enough to play for Celtic but certainly a really decent player in SPL terms. Got to admire his guts to go on and be a pro footballer after losing an eye too. Cant think of anyone else who has done that.

  2. put on a tin hat mate. Its apparently a crime to support NI among many fellow Celtic fans. Have no problem with it. How come there seems to be such a strong Hibs-NI connection?

  3. Because we are determined to recruit some fans in Northern Ireland along non-sectarian lines. The message we try to get across is: if you don't want your football team to be associated with Republican or Loyalist politics but still want your Irishness to be represented support us and leave alone the Old Firm. Simple no? :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen: :50: Yes, Tin hat on I know....:icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:

  4. It seems to be that the ifa turn a blind eye to any up and coming Derry players. Its been like that for years now. Which is why a few lads have decided to play for the republic.

Paddy was at rochdale i think when he got his 1st cap but he has been over looked since. Hopefully though he doesnt get any of the abuse lenny got from them.

  5. It has always been the same, Irish League players have always been left on the side lines when selected for Northern Ireland squads, irrespective of how players from even the lowliest English League Clubs perform for them.

Additionally, I hope the Windsor Park crowd respect McCourt for what he can do on the Park as a player and not get hung up on the fact he plays for us. I wont hold my breath though

  6. I dont wholly agree with this theory though I can understand why folk might think that. I believe it is as basic as this, over the last 20 years the ROI team have been much more successful than NI and proffessional footballers want to play at major international tournaments, therefore, they have opted to play for the Republic. In the 60s & most of the 70s when the ROI team was frankly a shambles (they didnt even have a Manager, they had a panel of Selectors) all the good Roman Catholic players from Northern Ireland opted to play for NI, Martin O neil being a classic example. Plus migration has also ensured to keep Irish league players out because although both NI & ROI have a limited pool of players to choose from, the FIFA "Grandparent" rule greatly assists both Associations to obtain the services of players from the English & Scottish Leagues.

  7. Reality is that the ifa was and is a total orange order/ hun organisation. * them.

  8. couldnt agree more with u m8

  9. no he shouldnt hes a good player too but needs to prove us all wrong

  10. I know Roddy Collins said Paddy was the best player he has ever worked with and he was as good as Best, heres another quote from another Derry player Owen Morrison who played with sheffield wed . sheff utd and dunfermline. He said he trained with Paolo di canio and Benito carbone but mc court is the most naturally talented player that i have ever played alongside. ive never seen anyone go past players so easily as paddy can its frightening. He goes past you like you're not there. (Dery journal today). Enjoy
    ps Sorry slightly of topic

  11. None of the last two N Ireland managers have ever set foot in the brandywell to watch paddy play, you have the best player in Ireland playing against gothenburg and psg , good opposition to watch any player, but he could'nt be botherd to watch him, instead he give caps to three linfield players, says it all. And tell Nigel paddy was a full time professional with Derry , He's coming out with this crap paddy will be a better player now hes training full time.

I have no problem with NI either, we are all from these Islands and should stick together, however, I was disgusted at the way Neil Lennon was treated back in 2002 by a very small section of their support. That kind of intimidation has no place in sport or society for that matter.

  12. First, this will come out wrong but lennys style and aggressive play is one of the reasons they gave him a lot of stick, it was still disgusting behaviour from NI fans, I dont think he will get as much abuse, but I think it is early for a call up, he could be a flop and this is more pressure on him before he even starts, I hope he hits the ground running because we have seen in reccent years what a bad start can do to your celtic career. Good luck. HAIL HAIL...

  13. How long before the death threats start....scumbags!!!!!!

  14. Celtic has czens on win szkotisz ligue!!!!!!!!!!

  15. There is a reason. McCourt played for Derry city end of. The huns at the ifa have picked good old boys from Linfield in recent seasons while never giving McCourt a sniff. * the orange order ifa.
