Agreed it’s the fine line isn’t it. You might have the opportunity much better, someone who would 100% improve our first team squad but you’re relying on a weakened team to get to that stage that it’s viable.

But you’re last statement nails it for me. I’d be happy with any one of Jullien, Ajer, Elhamed and Bitton playing in the qualifiers.

Even if that was the position he was talking about. It might be the difference between going and signing somebody like Scott McKenna right now or Shane Duffy in a 2/3 weeks time.

Elhamed is a starter for me but what you’ve said is pretty much the point I was making. I agree with you that Bitton is decent back up but he started last night because Ajer isn’t good enough as a 1st choice CH. Julien lifted the defence last year but it wasn’t early enough to stop us going out of the CL.

We need a 1st choice in asap or we run the risk of it happening again. Going back to Lennys comments, I don’t see how the result last night changes that.

It’s definitely a strange comment. We literally didn’t learn anything we didn’t already know.

    That team was dreadful.

No mention of a LB? or winger. Striker would indicate someone else is still to go??

I'd prefer we didn't disclose what we were looking for to the press, it would only result in club's trying to play hard ball with us more. Give them nothing.

We will 100% be looking for a LB at the moment.

Bit strange that he would mention two other positions specifically though. He mentioned in a previous interview that LB was being looked at, but now hasn't.

Just seems a bit inconsistent in terms of what is being said.

Maybe he's playing games with the media people, but if he's going for duffy then he's sticking with the 352 and only needs frimping taylor and elhammed, maybye boli is staying * knows why but maybe he is

Our interest in Toney and Duffy has been made public but their could be reasons we're keeping things on the downlow for other positions.

We will 100% sign another LB this window.

anyone else slightly worried by the type of signings we seem to be going after under lenny linked with a striker from league one and a defender who cant get a game for redding

Liam Moore is the Reading captain and started 40 games for them last season.

The calibre of the signings so far - Elyounoussi, Barkas, Ajeti - has been high. My main concern is how long it is taking us to bring players in.

A Greek international keeper, a Swiss International striker with Champions League experience who we convinced to take a wage cut to join, an Irish international with EPL experience, Moore who doesn't "struggle to get a game" he's their captain and a mainstay and Toney who is clearly Strachan's recommendation having seen him up close.

I think the pedigree of players we're signing and going after is pretty good acthally.

A negative slant can always be put on signings if you're that way inclined.

Frimpong could've been described as a Man City cast-off who had never played a professional game, Elhamed could've been described as a 28 year old who had failed in Belgium and was in a poor league with little international recognition. Both have proven that they were absolute bargains.

I'll hazard a guess and say that Lennon thinks there was some rustiness but overall he was pleased with the performance. 2 games running, got away with 1 today though. Needs to change it as it just isn't working
