With Ajeti looking a done deal, think we are 1 first choice CB away from Lenny being happy to 3-5-2. Hopefully 1 can be in the next week.

Rangers linked to Andreas Skov Olsen. We should be moving for him if he is available. Good winger option.

Last year few came out of nothing, let's hope the same soon here. Plenty of time now with the postponements for Lennon to be pushing for what he wants/needs

Rated at £6m. It's a surprise that they have already spent £10m net. No chance of them spending more, especially when they haven't sold anybody.

I wouldn't be so sure. They always find money from somewhere.

Exactly. This narrative that they don’t have money is getting old. Their net spend is probably higher than ours over the last 3-4 years. Yes they are getting loans and diluting shares etc. but the means justify the end if they are strengthening their squad.

We have stacks of disposable cash but our Board are stingy.

No but I think that is not really a good way of looking at it. If you sell 1 player for £25m then spend about £20m on other players your wages go up. Jullien is probably on what KT was on, if not more. Other players get contract extensions too.

To be honest thats spot on.

But on to a certain extent, its about asset management too. I touched on this on another thread.

The example you give was last year when we got 25m for KT.

Assume on average you tie 3 top current squad players to new contracts each year. And you sign 4 players for total around 20m as you say with wages all around jullien range.

Thats 4 decent wages added plus 3 contract extensions each year.

That could mean an increase of around 120-140k a week.

But you offset that also by players you move on.

    Last season we moved on

    DDV
    Banko
    Boyata
    Compper
    Izxy
    Toljan
    KT
    Lustig
    Gamboa
    Allan
    Burke
    Weah

And prob others ive forgotten, all them players left other that KT without bringing in transfer fees. But it was a significant drop in the wages.

So i dont think its fair to say if one player each year leaves at 25m you cant sign 4 players for 20m because your wage bill will increase.

If you can move players not seen as assets worth increasing the contract and free up wages it will off set that and let you continue that cycle

That’s my point. We are always trying to balance the books and often sell before we spend.

Their approach has been pretty much gung-ho since Slippy arrived.

Look at how many sellable assets we have:
    Edouard
    Ajer
    McGregor
    Frimpong
    Ntcham
    Christie

All would go for in the region of £10-35m.

The board should be going all out to strengthen the squad knowing that they are going to make huge sales in years to come when some of the above players move on.

I respect the board’s conservative approach given the success we’ve had but the challenge we face this season is considerably stronger than in previous seasons.

Cant see it. Think he’s highly thought of by PSG hence why he started their cup final game and the warm up games. Would be some coup if we got him in on loan - probably be contingent on us qualifying for Europe.

I would actually be alright with a loan player at LB, as long as we sign a permanent CB alongside.
