It’s certainly not gloating. It’s a case of people blowing a situation out of proportion.

It’s been an unprecedented few months. I’m surprised more players didn’t come back unfit, there’s only so much an exercise bike will do for you.

I think the fact he’s turned it around so quickly is the most telling. Certainly more telling than coming out of lockdown from a global pandemic unfit.

If it was one player, it was always going to be him. We know this. But he’s got himself ready for the season, whatever he does from now is what he will be remembered for.

It was always disappointing to see that he was back unfit.
I said at the time, I'm not majorly upset by it, and the media certainly blew it out of proportion and typical social media went nuts over it.

Lennon had a preseason tournament to deal with, designed to get 3 teams up to match sharpness and ready to go for the first competitive games of their season. We had little room to also get folk simple fit.
So best bet, let Leigh do his thing at home while the rest of the squad got on with it.

Lennon lit a fire under his * to get him motivated and it seems to have worked at the present moment.

He will start tomorrow and I dare say on the bench for the second game of the season, from there everything is back to normality.

Hardly the "end of his career" that the media made it out to be.

I think for a professional athlete even 1 pound of extra weight can be seen as too much and that would be lost rapidly with a good week of work

Leigh is always gonna have these peaks and troughs. I'd rather this little issue rose up now and not in height of the season. Guy will score is a lot of important away goals this season.

Lennon rightly chastised him for his lack of professionalism: no other player missed our preseason games because they were unfit.

To now dismiss it as much ado about nothing, because he is now in the condition that he should have been in, is dishonest. He will have, at most, 90 minutes under his belt before the start of the season; he is clearly anything but ready for it, and that is the why people are justifiably frustrated with him.

So do you want to just keep dragging it out?

It’s time to praise him and move on. As Lennon has done.

Onto the season now, we can judge him there.
