Even if no players have tested positive, would they not have to self isolate from now, so can't see how they're be ready for first game.

Will Hamilton need to self isolate if they have been in contact?

I don't know how it works tbh mate, I've lost track of the guidelines! I'm not sure what constitutes 'contact'.

ST MIRREN have been temporarily shut down after SEVEN coaching staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The Buddies alerted game chiefs and health officials straight away to notify them of the positive test results.

The club have confirmed NO players have contracted the virus with the Saints closing down to try and stop the spread.

SunSport understands the test results returned inconclusive.

However, that is enough to be considered as positive cases for now, with a second test taken today with the results expected in the next 24 hours.

A club spokesman said: “We can confirm our testing regime has identified several members of our coaching staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

“We immediately contacted the health authorities, and the SPFL and the SFA have also been informed.

“Thus far no members of the playing staff have tested positive and we are taking all possible precautions to ensure there is no further spread.

“We will provide an update in due course.”

The move will come as a hammer blow to boss Jim Goodwin as his side gear up for the Premiership kick-off on August 1 at home against Livingston.

Saints had been scheduled to have their final bounce game against St Johnstone in Paisley on Saturday, but that now have been called off.

Under strict government testing measures, clubs were testing players once a week after a relaxation of the original twice weekly testing.

But now the Joint Response Group have instructed clubs to return to two tests per week.

A statement read: "The Joint Response Group has been notified that St Mirren Football Club has today returned seven positive tests for COVID-19.

"We immediately contacted the Scottish Government and the office of the Clinical Director for Scotland to relay this information.

"As a consequence, St Mirren’s planned friendly match at home to St Johnstone, scheduled to take place on Saturday 25 July, has been cancelled.

"In light of this and other recent events, the JRG hereby notifies Scottish Premiership clubs that with immediate effect they must revert to twice-weekly testing protocols until further notice.

An unnamed Aberdeen player has so far been the only other positive test since Scottish clubs returned for pre-season.

Clubs must confirm they have had no negative tests before a game or face postponements.

Rangers’ bounce game with Motherwell was delayed two hours on Wednesday night as the clubs waited for news on testing.

While Ross County were left fuming last weekend after their clash with Hibs at their east Lothian training ground was called off.

Several of the Staggies’ players were in the capital, with the other squad members in Perth when the match bit the dust.

Can't take any chances with it. I imagine people will need to be informed to trace and track

If that happens their will be no spfl left the other clubs rely on gate money and Celtic and Rangers do to an extent to compete with other clubs in Europe

We believe St Mirren have returned seven positive COVID-19 tests.

Following the departure of the St Mirren squad on Saturday the area used was cleaned and disinfected. The location occupied by St Mirren was a segregated area at the far end of our stadium and is separate from the areas used by Hamilton Accies’ players and staff on a matchday. Subsequently on Monday, all players and backroom staff were tested with all results returned negative.

Hamilton Academical will continue to follow advice from the SFA/SPFL joint response group.

There is no way that we are making it through this season without major disruptions at (semi-)regular intervals.

It could quickly become a farce.

Totally, just look at testing, Hibs had to cancel a friendly due to tests not coming back, Rangers vs Motherwell put back by 2 hours due to tests. We probably should have done 33 games this season just to give some breathing room.

What is the protocol then for a club like St Mirren who return positive tests?

Obviously the people who have tested positive need to self isolate but does that mean the rest of the players (who tested negative) can get play in any scheduled fixtures?

Agree with the posts above, this could be a real stop start season.
