Dembele should be able to play against SPFL opposition and hopefully Elhamed stays injury free(no laughing at the back) which would leave us with Jullien, Ajer, Elhamed and Bitton. Think Welsh looked not bad as well so a few games for him should be fine.

 

Transfer windows here are so boring these days, a least a few years ago we at least got some decent rumours lol. I suppose our policy is working and it’s better than signing has been big names like rangers.

 

Need a keeper in before the weekend to have a chance of bedding in before the season opener.

Some chat on KDS about Shane Duffy. Rumours stemming from an Instagram post he made indicating he was off from Brighton and coupled with the snake nearly signing him before apparently pulling the plug. Sounds like putting 2+2 together and getting 5.. woukd be a great signing mind

On the rumours front we just seem to be a lot better at keeping things quiet until it’s almost time to announce someone unless the selling club put something out to the press.

There’s been no shortage of links to players but most seem total guess work.

I guess success from our policy is subjective, most of our recent signing successes have been bigger money buys in Eddy, Ntcham and Jullien. El Hamed has looked a find but is very injury prone and Frimpong had a great breakthrough season but contains a big sell on clause from Man City.

However most of our signings in our usual price range are yet to prove themselves or have flopped. Shved (£2m), Bayo (£2m), Hendry (£1.5m), Gamboa (£1m), Commper (£1m), Boli (£3m) and Kouassi (£3m) have all flopped (total £13.5m). Jury remains out on Klimala (£3.6m), Soro (£2m) and Taylor (£2.5m), another £8.1m.

Players who have succeeded in the first team that are still at the club we’re signed in Delia’s reign, Christie and Ajer (15/16 season For approx £500k each) and required at least two seasons to develop with the emergence of Tierney and McGregor from our own academy. Tierney burst on the scene but McGregor had a loan then 2 seasons of being in and out the team.

Our last £2m punt that actually broke through and was sold for profit was Armstrong back in the January window of the 14/15 season. That was from our league. One from a foreign league you would be going back to Van Dijk (13/14 season).

The Dembele deal was brilliant being able to get him for a development fee and selling for £20m (even though should have been aiming for £10m more).

Combine that with just 4 years of CL football out of 8 and we have missed out/ wasted a lot of money. In terms of the model we are looking fine just now having developed Ajer and Christie over a number of seasons, having polished Eddy and Ntcham as well as having brought through CalMac but beyond that you are only really looking at Frimpong from the current crop you would expect to get a decent fee from and even then 30% of that goes to City.

This window is massive for the club for the obvious reasons of the 10 as the first team could be doing with quality/competition in a few places but also in terms of our transfer model.

 

Shane duffy would be a right gd replacement for jozo , would give 100% every game , real leader , doesnt shy away and very good in the air and does t get injured every other game !! Hopefully something in this , is his contract up i take it by his tweet so at 28yr old and free transfer would be good business

 

Doesn't Duffy still have 3 years left? He ain't coming for cheap.

 

I think it's two years left, either way yeah cant imagine he will be cheap unless of course Brighton want rid.. clubs like Brighton probably taking a hit from the pandemic.

 

Yeah but they still need players, them being desperate is our hope. Read somewhere Premier league clubs expected to lose £450m with no crowds until October.

 

Yeah but at the moment he isnt first choice which isnt anything to be worried about because Brighton have two very good center backs. So he might be a luxury they cant afford and might have enough cover to let him go.. as I said it's only talk but I have everything crossed, would be an absolute beast for Celtic
